I understand the fact that they are KIDS ( I say kids and mean kids) in college. That does not excuse their behavior though. I don't think it's an age thing or a college thing. I honestly think it's a \"raising\" thing. As time goes on, and the more students I see. The more I start to see and understand the mentality of these kids. My students are around the same age as these kids. What I see, is and attitude of \"You owe me\", and/or \"It's not my fault\". This attitude does not know a color or a creed. Parents of today's youth do not hold their children to a standard. It's everyone else's fault. \" My baby would never do that\". Add in a little \"no child left behind\" , take out a little classroom/behavioral competition, then add a little more \" parents not including discipline as a method to raise children\". What do you end up with. A kid, who thinks he can get away with anything. No matter how bad he acts, it's okay and it's never MY fault. I know their are exception to the rule. Unfortunately, the exceptions are the good kids and the norm are the bad ones. Unlike these student athletes(my students), they do not get the chance to play for the Red and Black. They get a chance to protect, fight, and/or die for the Red, White, and Blue. This by no means changes the attitude. Bad apples are bad apples, and they start to rot at home!
Of course this is my opinion. This is years of teaching young military kids how to fly in a helicopter and be rescue swimmers. It's always someone else's fault. Never theirs.
