We got what we deserved

Lots of complaining about the Independence Bowl.

What this shows is a willingness of the bowls to look beyond the numbers.

Auburn overachieved this year, and Tennessee is a program that progressed and got better during the season with a new coaching staff. Kentucky beat us in our own home and they were rewarded for it.

The bowls rewarded giving it everything you have, exceeding expectations, and making the most of what you have.

They did not reward a team that failed to live up to anything even approaching it's potential, failed to play a complete football game until the last game of the season, and was undisciplined that they finished near the bottom of the country in penalties and turnovers.

Auburn, Tennessee, and Kentucky played up this year. Georgia played down.

Why should a team that consistently has top 10 recruiting classes, routinely finishes in the top 10, and has a championship tradition w/ an established head coach be rewarded with a New Year's day bowl in the Sunshine State when there are teams with the same record who don't have anywhere near the same resources who outclassed you?

Don't like Shreveport? Here's an idea. Don't go 7-5 and lose to teams you should have easily beaten and don't squander talent and make it look like you'd rather be somewhere else in front of a national audience, and you wouldn't be in this position in the first place.

Very well said. I would have liked the Music City bowl just because it is close living in Knoxville.

I agree with you ChemDawg. Let's not forget we only have 7 wins because we feasted on the sacrificial lamb that is Tennessee Tech.

We beat Auburn pretty much without AJ Green, our OOC schedule is way tougher, we would be 8-4 if for not the LSU mystery flag, we deserve it over Auburn, they lost to Kentucky too at home. They have won 2 of their last 7 games (one of those vs Furman) we have won 4 of our last 7 (one vs Tenn Tech).They are 3-5 in SEC we are 4-4, not to mention that we beat them. We should be in a better bowl than Auburn and did not get what we deserved.

I'm not saying we're Outback Bowl worthy. But we're certainly better than Shreveport.

The good thing about this is that we're 1-3 all time against Texas A&M, the only win coming in a 42-0 blowout in 1980. I hate having a losing record against ANYONE, whether it's Auburn, Alabama or Florida International. We have a chance to make the record 2-3 and get a little bit of interconference respect back from the Big 12 after losing to OSU.

We also have the opportunity to play for yet ANOTHER consecutive 8-win season. That's big, considering the streak we came into the season with.

The fact that we got any bowl this year is a blessing, so although I don't like the Independence Bowl as a season ender, I'll take it given where it looked like we were headed. The OPs are right, if we dont' want to end up in the Independence Bowl, don't play Independence-bowlesque football.
