Questions for this Dawgs.com board.
What should we as fans, alumni and interested persons expect from our UGA football team?
Is the 2009 season just a belch, better things to come? Is this a serious problem that will get worse, nothing to hang our hopes on?
Some of the surrounding states hitting our high school programs with great intensity. Are there that many top caliber players in the State of Georgia as opposed to other states? Does one or two down years (expectations) change our outlook on the UGA football program.
If our coaching has become a problem, why do we continue to grade high on the national scope when it concerns our recruiting history? Coaches are recruiting these young men.
Why is it last year that we brought a kicker in from the left coast to correct and improve our less than successful kicking game? Why did our kicking game become so much better this year as opposed to last year? Was it because of competition or coaching?
Why would some of the top high school receivers and running backs cast their ballots with UGA over other schools that have had more impressive results in the last ten or so years?
Is Coach Mark Richt the main reason that most of these top rated recruits choose UGA?
Why has the University of Florida had such a strangle hold on UGA in recent years? Is the coaching better, are the players better than the recruits we get? Does playing the annual game in JAX prove to be a deciding factor as to why we have been beaten there so much recently? We used to win in JAX.
Statement . . . .
UGA is not a lot different than many of the \"top rated\" schools across the nation. A lot of the necessaries are seated in Athens, however something is missing whether it be coaching or player attitudes/talent. Definitely not a lack of fan support.
Maybe it is the press that's given to some of the schools in the \"Big Whatever.\" Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan once upon a time. Notre Dame basically owns NBC, what's up . . .
Saban, Meyers come to the SEC, and there is a reason for that . . . talent. Spurrier tries to get reinstated at UF after his stint in the NFL, does not work. Takes South Carolina job and recruiting is not as successful as it was when he coached UF.
If it is coaching, now is a prime time for UM to take the job at Notre Dame. If UM is all that, he will get that program back on course. If not, makes one wonder about the talent in Florida/Georgia and the Southeast that remains here.
My guess is that you can get a lot of press, high ratings, great air time if you recruit and WIN. Winning comes down not only to coaching, but players buying into the program. Has this 2009 group of UGA players bought into the system, can't answer that. Somewhere in the mix there is an answer, question is, who more than Coach Richt is responsible for finding that answer.
Hard work continues against Auburn. Some say we are 4.5 point favorites, others say the game will be a blow out. According to what and where you read, the blow out could happen to either side.
I hope that you are not as confused as I am about all things UGA football. Go Dawgs!
