Dead Horses

I don't suppose I can implore everybody to agree on everything, but the fact is that there are several topics that have become worn, especially in the context of having four games still left in the season. (And how will we feel if we end up 8-4?)For that reason, I thought I'd just post the casualties here and hope we can begin to talk about other things (and the irony of this coming from me is not unnoted.)

Willie Martinez needs to go. We probably have close to consensus agreement on this. Willie won't go by season's end. Whether he goes after the season is fodder for January's posts.

Mike Bobo needs some creativity, perhaps some more time as an assistant OC. I imagine we're split here. Mike will be back next year, but he'll suffer the same outcry as CWM if the offense sputters in '10.

CMR is a good coach. Probably, we are split between good and great, with a few calling for his head. CMR is not going anywhere. If his seat is hot, it's due to his reluctance/inability to make changes in his staff. At least he now knows how passionate the Dawg nation gets when the team underperforms.

Our players are underperforming. We're likely split on whether or not it's due to coaching or talent, with the curve skewed toward the \"coaching\" end. The unfortunate thing is that we are now talking about \"next\" year's team, and that now carries a great measure of uncertainty. Still, this is pretty evident, but as I started this post, what if we end up 8-4? It's a tough road, but a win against Tech certainly would be a salve for our wounds.

Limey, I think the dead horse keeps getting beaten because of the board's passion. Everything leads back to the dead horse. We try to talk about this week's game, and the conversation steers back to--will we even get far enough ahead of a Div 1-A team to play some of our backups, which leads us to talk about next year's team having very little experience since we haven't put any teams away early the last 2 or 3 years, which leads us back to our anemic offense and ridiculous defense, which leads us back to underperforming coaches, etc, etc, etc. Basically, most people are going to talk about what's chapping our hides, or the board probably won't have a great deal of activity. Every time I read another excuse from Richt, or another writer talking about how low our program has sunk, it re-opens the \"wound\" and I come on here to vent. I know it kind of sucks, but I guess that goes along with being passionate fans. The coaches need to realize that as well. And if the team goes 8-4? I'll be even more proud of them than I am disappointed in them now for being 4-4. Passion.

I hear ya, Sadlerdawg. I agree, too. Just thought I'd try to get some conversations moving elsewhere, or at least from a unique angle.

It could be worse. We could still have Wally Butts coaching us. Of course, Wally had a NC, and was 12-9 versus the gators (even hung 75 on 'em), but still...

I'm just hoping that UGA has at least 5 losses so that CMR can equal Ron Zook's worst year at UF. A 7-5 season in 2004. :)
