You'd think they'd be protecting their \"SEC is the toughest conference in the country\" bandwagon status that they've FINALLY accepted after three straight national championships. But look how they've treated the SEC this year, with the exception of 'Bama, LSU and Florida:
1) South Carolina, a team that's 4-1 and beat the then-fourth ranked team in the country, isn't ranked by the coaches and is #25 in the AP poll.
2) Ole Miss dropped an incredible 17 spots after losing to South Carolina, an SEC opponent, on the road, by only six points.
3) Georgia lost to a team ranked only two spots ahead of them (Oklahoma State) on the road and dropped 12 spots. The next week, Oklahoma State lost to an unranked Houston team by ten points AT HOME and only dropped 7 or 8 spots.
4) Auburn had to go 5-0, that's FIVE-AND-OH, just to get ranked! God help us all if they go undefeated again this year and get shut out of the national title game because Texas and BOISE STATE started the year ranked higher!
5) Georgia loses a close game to the #4 team in the nation -- on what EVERYONE WHO VOTES has said was a terrible call -- and drops out of the rankings. Completely. In the AP poll, this means dropping 8 spots from #18 to at least #26. In the coaches' poll, this means dropping an unforgiveable 12 spots (at least) from #14.
Now, I'm not ready to play the \"SEC gets no respect\" card just yet, but listen: based on the BCS formula, if Texas, Boise State and Auburn win out at this point, Auburn gets left out. Same thing happens if Texas, TCU and Auburn win out. Same thing happens if the third undefeated team is Houston. Or, God help us all, IOWA.
