For all of you who like a little history lesson to raise your spirits about a daunting game, I is yo' medicine man.
- In 2003, LSU won the national championship. In doing so, they had to defeat Georgia twice, once by a 17-10 score, once by a 34-13 score. Since then, LSU has lost to Georgia three times, by scores of 45-16, 34-14 (in the 2005 SEC Championship game) and 52-38. This means that Georgia has outscored LSU 131-68 in that span.
- LSU has not beaten Georgia in Athens since 1987, a 26-23 squeaker.
- LSU holds an all-time 14-12-1 lead in the overall series. However, since that last defeat in Athens in 1987, Georgia is 6-3 against the Tigers -- two of those losses coming in 2003 -- with those wins including a 31-10 blowout in Athens in 1991 and two squeakers: the 1998 defeat of LSU in Baton Rouge, 28-27 and a 23-22 nailbiter between the hedges.
- Coming into Saturday's game, Georgia is 20-5 against the SEC West during the regular season under Mark Richt, and 9-1 in the last four years. Three of those losses were to Auburn, one to LSU in 2003 and one to Alabama last year.
- On the subject of turnovers: In the Les Miles era, LSU quarterbacks have thrown five interceptions in two games against the Dawgs. Georgia has committed no turnovers in that period of time.
- In fact, Georgia has not given LSU the ball since the 2003 SEC Championship game, when the Dawgs threw three INTs. Even in that 34-13 blowout, however, LSU managed to throw a pick.
- In the Mark Richt era overall, LSU has thrown 7 interceptions and lost four fumbles. By way of comparison, Georgia has thrown four interceptions in that time, all of them coming in the two losses in 2003. No Mark Richt team has ever fumbled the ball away to LSU.
So, you know...go Dawgs!!!
