MAN TO MAN

Is it just me or do some of you think that we need to give some serious thought to putting some pressure on the QB and playing some man to man pass defense ? The way CWM seemed to call the defense last night it seems that \"zone\" means no Georgia DB or LB is allowed to get within 10 yards of the other teams receivers before they catch the ball. I wouldnt BE surprised if they didnt go deep so much i dont see why Mallet didnt have 100% completion rate we because it seemed they were wide open with no defender anywhere close. Granted we did pretty well againist the run and toward the end of the game our 3 man rush got some sacks. It appears to be more pass rush is in order and play the pass coverage tight, at least someone is there to make a tackle. I think we have the talent and it is wasted away in the coaching. Just an opinion & GO DAWGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone posted a thread entitled \"The Two Things We Need to Fix\". IMHO it is three things that we need to fix. 1)The defensive philosophy which you describe pretty well above Elvisdawg; 2)Turnovers; 3)Penalties; and in that order.

CWM is the man at whom I point the finger for this atrocious defensive approach. It will not get us by the LSU's and Gators of this conference. Who knows how good we actually are right now? It occurred to me after the game Saturday that we might be really good, if we were actually playing smash-mouth defense. Suppose we tried playing some man-to-man and/or tight coverage zone. And suppose we got beat a few times. SO WHAT! Are we getting beat now? Are we? I absolutely detest this kind of namby pamby pass defense. All that CWM wants to do is contain the receivers. \"Now boys we need to stay away from them, or they might get behind you; we don't want that boys,\" says CWM. CRAP! It is killing us in the score, in statistics, in morale and at least in the first game in the win column. We were very lucky to beat Carolina, and I thought USC actually deserved to win. Yes, we have to improve our turnover ratio and penalties, but they will to some extent be self-reducing as the season progresses. THIS DEFENSE THING WILL NOT UNLESS CWM CHANGES IT!

Up to now, I have not wanted to criticize anyone on the team. BUT, Coach Martinez really needs to get this D tuned in to playing hard nosed, aggressive defense. The problems may be injuries, and lack of talent but I do not buy that excuse any longer. We have some really good players on our D. They have a lack of the GATA attitude.

What I know about coaching, you could put in a thimble. But it seems to me that all teams use the same drills, techniques, and equipment. The separator is schemes and intensity. That starts with the coaches. CWM is not going to be replaced during the season. We are stuck with him. I sure hope he can get it together before we meet LSU. Because, starting with that game the SEC champioship is in play.

LSU- a very tough game.
TN- a darn good D.
Fla- We can win it, with great D.
Auburn-going to be another tough one, and their offense is getting better and better.
Vanderbilt-Will play us hard.
KY-Will also play us hard.

This aint going to be easy, and can be pretty brutal if the D doesn't get it together and stay that way.
