Thanks, Buc, for getting me fired up.
Now it's my duty to get you, the members of Dawgs.com nation, fired up about this Saturday. I know that we lost to Oklahoma State. I know that. I know that it's like being gutted, especially after the high hopes a LOT of us had this year.
But listen:
Listen to the following:
1) SEC play starts Saturday. That's real football. That's for the greatest conference title in the land. That's an important game. Every game counts in this conference. If you don't believe me, ask Ron Zook's 2005 Florida Gators how much losing to South Carolina can hurt you. Hell, ask the Dawgs who are still left from the 2007 season how much that hurts.
2) Saturday is the home opener. We can't have 93,000 dejected fans sitting in the stands waiting for their Dawgs to lose.
3) 2007.
4) Also 2007.
5) Steve Spurrier is the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks football program. For those of you who are young bucks, let me tell you something:
1990: 38-7
1991: 45-13
1992: 26-24 (Florida takes the SEC East away from us)
1993: 33-26
1994: 52-14
1995: 52-17 (half a hundred between the hedges)
1996: 47-7
1998: 38-7
1999: 30-14
2000: 34-23
2001: 24-10
2007: 16-12
Those are all of the times Steve Spurrier has beaten us since he became a head football coach in the SEC. In 1992 a terrible penalty was all that stood between Eric Zeier and a berth in Georgia's first SEC Championship game. In 1995 Steve Spurrier deliberately ran up the score in Athens because, in his own words, no one had ever scored fifty on Georgia between the hedges before.
Steve Spurrier hates Georgia, because Georgia stole an SEC Championship from him in his Heisman year. Since then, he has wanted nothing more than to beat us senseless whenever he gets the chance, and in the '90s he got the chance OFTEN.
It is because of Steve Spurrier that Georgia has this mental block where we can't beat Florida even when they're not as good as we are.
It is because of Steve Spurrier, therefore, that Georgia did not win a national title in 2002.
It is directly because of Steve Spurrier that Georgia did not win an SEC or a national title in 2007.
People, you'd better get fired up and get to the Classic City, because we MUST beat Steve Spurrier this weekend.
MUST.
MUST!!!
