Unbiased Observation

Sorry to start a new thread on the subject but I have read all the posts here regarding yesterday's game and most people just can't get it. It is understandable though and I also understand that most posters are simply venting their frustration.
But,
In a nutshell, the loss is very easy to understand.
Someone had to loose and I prdicted it would be a close and somewhat low scoring game (Predicted 24-21 UGA). OSU played exactally like I predicted and UGA's deffense played exactally like I predicted (which was admirable so knocks against CWM are no appropriate).
The unexpected to me was the play calling of Bobo. He panicked, used the \"not ready\" Cox in the wrong way. The running game should have been the primary plan, or short screens to the RBs and let them run wild. Once I saw Cox slinging the ball downfield (usually way too high), I knew that Bobo's panic would cost them the game.
The good news is that the defense looked very good and Cox will gain the \"game-time\" experience. I think UGA will right the ship. It starts next week.
If it makes you feel any better, the Gators had to punt a couple of times in the 1st qtr. against a Div. 2 team and the defense gave up 18 1st downs and over 300 yds.

Hello all. This is my first post, so here is a quick intro. I was born and raised in GA, and I grew up in a house that was split between AU and UGA fans due to my hometown's proximity to Auburn. I went to both school's games growing up, but I have always favored the Dawgs heavily in our interfamily rivalry. I'm not an Alum, but I did get accepted to UGA. I chose to attend a service academy because I wanted to try to ply D-1 football. Ha ha. Turns out I might have a had a better college experience if I had trekked to Athens. Football didn't work out, and consequently, I am stationed in the Northwest CONUS. I love my country and my job, but watching the Dawgs has always made me feel closer to home, and it is a big passion of mine, as well as college football in general. Having said that, here goes....

Yes, the loss is very easy to understand. The problem was that the same offensive and defensive coordinators showed up to Stillwater.

Defense: Our D-line looked much improved, and we contained the run well. I attribute that more to the players and their personal progress than CWM. Of course Curran was an animal. BUT. It makes me want to put my head through a wall when we stay in the 3-4, only rush 3, and still let balls find their way to opposing receivers downfield. Our secondary has trouble in zone coverage. Seriously, if you want to beat us, throw the middle of the field behind our linebackers and in front of our safeties. It's open there, wide open, has been open from seam to seam for the past 3 years. And chances are, we are only bring 3 in the rush, so you'll have all day to cherry pick...

Offense: I have no problem with the way Cox played. In all honesty, he played above my expectations. Maybe he doesn't have the true deep ball arm of Stafford, but I know Cox can get it 10 to 15 yards downfield in intermediate routes. Why do we always abandon these pass routes? Our opponents have no problem picking us apart with them. No, Bobo would rather screen pass on 3rd and long 10 times a game and settle for it working once. Newsflash. Our opponents are on to the screen pass, swing pass, stretch run. Why do we always abandon what UGA has traditionally done well for the dink-and-dunk routine. Case in point. 1st drive was a thing of beauty. Then Bobo said, \"Well that worked pretty well, we should try something different from now on.\"

I seriously think our Coordinators don't like to win. I love CMR. I am proud to have a man of his character be the face of our program. Honestly, I don't want to fire him. That would be a colossal mistake. I don't know of there is anyone else better available, and bringing in some overpayed gimmick coach could send the program into and even darker and deeper hole. I do think he has to man up and take responsibility for his staff.

I realize that last post has a lot more to do with other threads and I apologize. I just had a lot to get off on my first post. Finding this forum last night was like therapy, and I wonder why I hadn't joined this thing earlier.

OK, so i have calmed down a bit now and rewatched the game. Willie Martinez had nothing to do with this loss! Im no WM fan either but everybody can quit throwing that excuse out there. Our D played good. We didnt get as much of a pass rush from our d line as we wanted and had to send the blitz but for the most part it worked. We held ZR to 135 yrd, Hunter to 75 (which i said he wouldnt break 100), and the ever so awsome Dez tot 77. Take away that penalty (wether it was bs or not) and the CT fumble and that would have made a whole other ball game. Our O lost this game. Recievers wouldn't catch the ball, although Cox wasnt throwing a whole lot of good ones. Gatorin is right...Joe Cox should NEVER throw the ball 30 times!!! EVER!!! He does Not have the arm strength to go long either! Mike Bobo's play calling after the first drive was uphauling! If you scored that fast on 1 drive, and mostly by running with RS, and mix in a little wildcat with Gray and Smith, why would you not do it again? Why would you start throwing the ball every play when you know your QB position is weak?! When we did get back to running in the third we drove down the field again, but Cox struck again. Froze like a deer in headlings when he saw the blitz in his face and took the sac when he had PLENTY of time to get rid of the ball. Therfore we kick the FG. Its simple, we run the ball we score pts! WE also need to work on special teams more because our coverage is AWFUL and if i see 1 more freshman muff the catch or take a ball out of the endzone when their 6 yrds deep im going to throw up!

Goooooo Dawgs...Sic'em...Woof Woof Woof!!!

Also totally agree about the run, we need to do it more, but we need to mix it up more than the stretch iso or stretch lead. We need to get back to lining up, hitting them in the mouth, and just blowing them off the ball. Every time we tried to stretch the field with our handoffs, they were right there waiting on us. For whatever reason, the Wild Dawg formation at least succeeded in keeping the opposing D guessing. We shouldn't have thrown it out. Also, it didn't help that RS went down anytime someone sneezed on him. I do believe, however, that he will get better as the year goes on.
