dapolla,

I agree with everything you wrote. Everything to a T. I'm not on the CMR referendum bandwagon as I said above. I think he's been a tremendous asset to UGA football and the school's rich history. All I'm doing is pointing out some obvious things going on during his tenure that if left unchecked, are going to cost him his job. Yes Bowl games are wonderful to win. And?

What do they mean? Ok, bragging rights are fine and trophies help build programs. But.......

I want a National Championship and frankly we have had the talent to get one! And yes, what you said is absolutely true: I believe we squandered the best opportunity we had in a long time last season to do something truly special. Injuries were a factor but on paper, Georgia had it. Unfortunately the statistics don't throw the football or run in touchdowns - that is left up to the players who are coached.

I'll openly admit that I've only been following Georgia with an unhealthy passion and reading it's history since about 2002-2003. So call me a pup, not a dawg; I'll take that label. But I've followed football my entire life with an avid passion and a hopeful objectivity. I'll call a spade a spade when I see it and what I see is friendships getting in the way of a winning strategy. I personally work for my boss who is also a very good friend of mine. However, if I became the weak link in the chain to the point of costing my business money due to errors and omissions, he would absolutely let me go. Sometimes we fans also lose perspective on the \"business\" side of this game.

Say what you will about Spurrier at South Carolina. But he coached his players up to win games AT Florida. No he didnt care what they did in the NFL, maybe a downfall. But Spurrier didnt get paid to produce NFL superstars, he got paid to win games and turn the UGAFLA tide around. He did both. CMR I dont think is so worried about putting players in the NFL, and he shouldnt be.

Dapolla is exactly right, CMR is the man for the job. Do we know why USC is picked in the top 3 every year, because they play in the Pac 10. A weak conference, if the SEC were like that then sure it would be easy to expect a National Title evry year. But its not. Florida has had recent luck, but Ive cheered the seasons where they had no shot. Winning in the SEC is just plain out hard, unlike any other conference. It would behoove the dawgs for CMR to take the reins at calling the offense. The dawgs are no worse than Bama, except for Bama ran heavier and heavier as the game went on and UGA did it less and less.

I like Coach Richt. It's only one game.
We were ill prepared for OSU.
No fire in our guts.

That's the biggest thing though, we haven't had a fired up team in a while and when they finally did show some fire he spent the entire off season apologizing.

It was better when richt had VG, someone to stir up the team.

Its long past the time of me wondering if martinez is going to improve, its obvious he won't and he needs to go.

I love richt but he needs to quit rewarding under-performing individuals with a job. Loyalty can only go so far.

Exactly who are we to benchmark CMR against??? Donnon, Irk, Dooley,...I'm having a difficult time finding the mediocrity of CMR's tenure when compared against UGA's history...Now, if we are to compare ourselves to Miles, Spurrier, Saban, or Meyer then you must be willing to forego integrity for the value of a crystal ball...I, on the other hand am not!

I've been a Dawg fan for a damn long time, seen several head coaches come and go and many an assistant too! There was a time when many a student and alum placed bumper stickers on their cars calling for Dooley to be removed... a few years later we won the NC...One could easily say we were mediocre in the 60's and 70's, rose up, only to find mediocrity again....Kinda like half empty versus half full...

And exactly where does the fire CWM group garner support from the game against OSU. Our D kept us in the game because CMB devised a piss poor game plan...Where is the fire Bobo group???? Come on folks, lets be realistic....its the first game of the season. All is not lost, in fact, if we are to lose a game, losing early in the season is much easier to overcome than say the last couple of weeks...

As for CMR,....I saw this posted on another site last week and decided to crossport here.
The author is DawgStephen, and he captured much of what I feel about CMR......

CMR- My Coach, My team
by: DawgStephen

Coach Mark Richt has never won a BCS National Championship. His
teams have never even played for a BCS National Championship. He has
a losing record against Florida. At times he seems to be the nice
guy who sometimes isn't as fiery as other coaches. That's where the
negativity stops.

Before Coach Richt, Georgia had NEVER been to the SEC championship
game. Under Coach Richt, the dawgs have been 3 times and won
twice. Before Coach Richt, Georgia hadnt won the SEC in 20 years.
They now can claim 2002 and 2005 as \"year of the dawg\"

Before Coach Richt, Georgia had NEVER beaten a top 5 team on the
road. In 2006, Georgia dismantled Auburn at home 38-15 and it wasnt
even that close. Coach Richt even took a knee on Auburn's 5 yard
line despite my mom screaming \"KICK IT!!! Hang 41 on them!!!\"

Before Coach Richt, Georgia was 1-8 versus Tennessee since the SEC
divided into East & West. Since Coach Richt, Georgia is 5-3.

Before Coach Richt, Georgia was in a 3 game losing streak to Georgia
Tech. Since Coach Richt Georgia is 7-1 including the biggest win
over Georgia Tech ever at 51-7 in 2002 and a 7 game winning streak.
(Georgia's biggest streak ever)

Before Coach Richt, Georgia had NEVER won in Tuscaloosa. Under Coach
Richt, they are unbeaten.

Since he arrived, Georgia has not played for a National
Championship. That is not Coach Mark Richt's fault. In 2002, Georgia
finished 13-1, only to see 2 unbeaten teams with much weaker
schedules play in Tempe, Arizona. Georgia finished at #3. In 2007, a
2 loss Georgia team was skipped due to the human polls to allow a 2
loss LSU team to play for a NC. Georgia finished with a #2 ranking
and an 11-2 record. But Georgia was in the national spotlight and in
the argument. Something Georgia hadnt had in over 20 years. That was
all before Coach Richt.

Here are a few more thoughts to ponder.
(1-)-His .788 winning percentage is 4th best among active coaches.
(2-)He is the longest tenured coach now in the SEC.
(3-) 6 out of 8 (including 6 of the last 7) times his teams have won
10 or more games, winning as many as 13 games in 2002.
(4-)He is a 2 time SEC Coach of the year.
(5-)He is 34-3 against Non-Conference opponents.
(6-)His teams are 30-4 when playing in an opponents home stadium.
(7-)In 25 years, Coach Dooley had 7 \"10 win seasons\". In 8 years,
Coach Richt has done that 6 times already.
(8-) Coach Richt has won 82 games in his first eight seasons. He is
the ONLY Coach in SEC history to accomplish that feat. Not The Bear,
not Saban, not Jordan, not Fulmer, not even Spurrier or even our
beloved Coaches Dooley or Butts.
(9-) Coach Richt is 1 of only 5 SEC Coaches to record 4 STRAIGHT 10
win seasons.

These are the accomplishments on the field. The off the field
accomplishments include the habitat for humanity work, the mission
work in Honduras (Yes Tim, CMR does it too) , Camp Sunshine for
children, and not to mention the wonderful things that Katherine
does by his side.

Coach Richt is MY coach. He is the coach of MY team. I am very proud
to have him. Coach Richt may not have his National Championship yet,
but rest assured, he will.

Go Dawgs
