A Big Dawg Succeeds on the Grandest Stage

15 years 2 months ago #23026 by dapolla
Well, it was a disappointing day for one group of Dawgs (congrats, hefley, by the way), but a TREMENDOUS day for one Dawg in particular. Former National Champion Net Dawg John Isner defeated Andy Roddick today in the 3rd Round of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships! Here's the story: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/tennis/09...r/index.html?cnn=yes

Congratulations, Big (6'9\") John!!!

Unfortunately John was eliminated yesterday by Fernando Verdasco, ranked 10th in the world. But the Round of 16 ain't bad for #55 in the world, is it? GO DAWGS!!!

ESPN seemed to believe that he abandoned his net game and serve-and-volley, which is what helped him outlast Roddick. He said himself that Verdasco was too fast for him and kept him on the run the whole match. Personally I think that his height advantage, when he is able to couple it with experience and speed, is going to put him up near the top of American tennis players, if not players all over the world. He had a great coach at Georgia and has a LOT of talent. Great showing at the US Open, John!
