What happened?

Alright Dawgs fans. I've been reading this forum for a long time, but I'm a first time poster. I'm no football expert, but I do watch a lot of football, and the Bulldogs just seemed lost today. I was soooo excited when I saw that first drive of the game, but there is nothing else that I can be excited about after that. The only one good thing that came out of this game, in my eyes, was the defense. CWM has redeemed himself somewhat in my eyes. The special teams was out of this game. Our running game was inadequate. And I hate to be a \"hater,\" but Joe Cox did not seem to have the stuff that Georgia quarterbacks have always seemed to have. I hate to knock the guy; I know he's an amateur player, and I know he's been a loyal Bulldog through and through. But it seemed like CMR and Mike Bobo should have played Logan Gray a little more when Cox wasn't working. If you think I'm out of line with Cox, please let me know. I love all UGA players who work as hard as Joe, but it seemed to me like he didn't have what it took to win this ball game. I know OK State played very well, but I just felt like UGA missed a lot of opportunities (i.e. at least 3 dropped interceptions). I just hope the coaching staff can get this program back on the right track! Let me know what you think! Hey, at least football season is back.

Agree on the QB statement......Cox is a \"polished\" Joe T.

What happened:

Normally I write long detailed stuff out but I see many issues that we had better address REAL fast if we want to prevent this season from turning into a jaw-breaking yawn.

I. Defense

I will say it over and over again until the day his office is cleaned out of the contamination he has brought the UGA. Willie Martinez has to go. That OK ST offense was tearing us apart in the second half. Why? Again, the same nonsensical 3-4 of putting up 4 at the line, letting one drop back and rushing three. We had 4 interceptions go through our hands that 3 of those in my estimation were missed due to a complete lack of focus. No exceptions given. When a thrown pass hits a defender almost square on the numbers or right on the hands, it should be picked. If ya'll disagree, fine. I'm not going to be persuaded on this issue to any other belief than that. If it's in your hands, KEEP IT THERE! I say we hire Tommy Tuberville, let him run the defense and send Martinez packing.

II. QB

Stop picking apart Cox please. 1 game and I'm already seeing \"he's no Stafford\" comments. Look, relax. Joe showed an intensity on the field that I didn't see out of Stafford. I hardly think one game, his first start as the #1 QB against a top 10 team in contention for a NC is merit to start blaming Joe for anything. It's obvious Joe doesn't have Stafford's arm, but guess what? He doesn't need it. Football is a game of 10 yards and a solid defense. Don't believe me? Ask Trent Dilfer if he agrees with my theory.

III. We're young

With youth comes learning curve. We've all been raving about how great UGA's recruiting has been and now it's time to start molding the kids. It takes time. These kids aren't going to come in right out of the gate and start lighting up ESPN okay?

IV. The Calls

I saved this for last. I absolutely despise allowing refs to determine the outcome of a game and I'd say what happened today bordered dangerously close to that edge. That unnecessary roughness penalty they hit us with to put OK ST on our 12 was an absolute raping and a disgrace to the game of football. Those referees, everyone of them, should be put on indefinite suspension until they've proven they can officiate a game and make the right calls on the right play. Even the commentators saw it, were disgusted over it.

Make no mistake about it, I'm not blaming the refs for this loss. I blame our lack of offensive adjustment to OK ST, Martinez's pitiful defensive play calling as per usual and youth.

To me, that's what happened. OK ST is a very good team and my hats off to them for making the proper adjustments to win the game in the 2nd half. We have a lot of work to do friends.

Yeah I think as long as cox is in there we wont have much success, he made bad passes and didnt make them respect him at all so they ended up stacking the box and shut down the run.

Its going to be a loooooooong season if he doesnt get better quick or richt/bobo get a brain and start one of the other QBs, I would rather see logan if we are going to lose or aaron.

Thank you for not jumping down Coxs throat. He didnt lose the game. logan Gray would have brought nothing to the table that would have changed the outcome of the game. Bobo lost the game, with the God Awful play calling. He needs to go before CMR after todays game. Make no excuses, the refs did not lose the game, the refs didnt turn the ball over 3 times. That is a crutch that doesnt need to be used. Give the Dawgs some time, and have faith please, the season is to young to give up now.

Please read what I wrote.

I think I made it crystal clear that I'm not blaming the refs for that loss. What else can I say other than what I did to indicate that?

What I'm saying is that it was a large factor in today's outcome. If you're going to tell me that a legitimate blown call at very pivotal time of the game that ended up giving OK ST great field position and a touchdown is a non-factor then we'll agree to disagree and move from there because it IS a factor and I don't feel like arguing.

But...it is not THE factor in the outcome of today's game. OK ST played a solid game in the 2nd half which I outlined above. Yes, and you're right about the play calling. Ultimately, this staff are going to start seriously compromising CMR's job if this type of performance continues and no staff changes are made.
