Let them PLAY FOOTBALL

Hey dapolla, did I say anything about make an illegal or dirty hit on the WR?? You certainly can make him \"pay\" with perfectly legal but very aggressive hits. Safeties need to own the middle.

I would like to think that no one either player or fan would condone anything illegal or malicious. Definately nobody here is acting that way. I do think there is a happy medium as far as those type of plays are concerned. These are 18-21 year old kids that have an entire life ahead of them, that could be drastically changed by 1 hit. If the refs are to lean to one side I would rather them lean to the side of keeping these kids best interest at heart.

GATOR.....I couldn't agree with you more to protect the players and believe me they ARE. Just look at some of the ridiculous \"roughing penalties\" for tackles supposedly out of bounds.....which aren't btw.

One hit certainly can change a life...just like one drink by an eighteen year old can change many lives. Protect what you can, when you can but we can't put everything in a bubble.

wlayton, we absolutely cant put everything in a bubble, and even normal football plays can change a life. Just ask David Pollack. Big hits are as much a part of football as Vince Lombardi, and can set the tone of a game by one hit. They need to be monitered, but refs need to let football be football.

Thank you to RX for posting the rules although many posters don't seem to have read them. I keep seeing posts regarding blows to the head but part B states \"no player shall initiate contact and target a defenseless opponent above the shoulders.\"
So blows to the head are only half of it and blows to the head were illegal before this change.
So for relevance, we should only be talking about part B, which the UGA player was clearly guilty of UNDER THE NEW RULE. But so was the OSU player and it wasn't called. I am all for rules that protect these young kids who are playing a game without being paid for our entertainment.
My problem with the call is that if the rule is to be enforced, it must be enforced evenly to both teams.
