I posted this over at the AJC a few months back on the junkyard blawg
Mr. Fixit here fixin’ to fix what needs fixin’.
A. Students should be let in on a first come first serve basis to the student section. Cuts down on the underaged boozing it up. Keeps those who want to be there the most in the stadium. Probably increases concession sales. As long as you’re a student with an ID card there should be a place for you somewhere, it may be in the 600’s after the student section fills up, but as long as you scream your lungs out, there should be a place for you.
B. Alums-200 per seat for the 600 level ranging to 500 per seat for the primo seats. Thats donation mind you. Alums get priority after students. Non-alums, while they may have money, don’t have their heart and soul and 14k a year for four years (minimum) poured into the Dawgs. It’s close to a religous experience, complete with tangible deities who battle for control of the SEC pantheon. It’s being able to say that without a doubt, the best day of your life was the blackout game vs. Auburn. It’s being able to poke fun at our rivals, but not degenerate into cursing children or get into fist fights, which seems all the rage with some of the fair weather boys I’ve seen cropping up. Most importantly, we stick with the dogs rain or shine. 10-0 or the inverse, we’re here for them because they’re here for us. Anyone caught booing the dogs, or cursing them in a loud tone of voice is welcome to go root for Tech.
C. Well behaved non-alums are given next priority, by well behaved, I mean you share the aforementioned convictions.
D. Ill behaved Non alums are given final priority. You know those lovely fellows who yell “Pass interference!?!?!” even though Stafford threw it 10 feet over the heads of the chain crew? The guy that had a good year land scaping and had some money leftover from his trips to panama city?
He’s a fair weather fan mark my words. When the dawgs lost to Bama you could hear him vulgarly cursing the dawgs and loudly protesting how bad we were. He was a fan of FSU in the early 90’s and was probably a Miami fan circa 2k2. While I wish him the best with his landscaping crews, he doesn’t deserve seats the way the students and alums do. Sure driving around in an Air Conditioned F-250 and talking on your nextel to your crews of day laboroers make you feel like a boss. And yes, in some cicles you’re considered important, but not here.
Your soul isn’t in it. It’s not like going to church for you. It’s just a chance to get wasted and a way to spend time between Nascar races or deer hunting.
What you do borders on sacrilidge. You have devalued the experience so much through your own actions and behaviors that the only way you can be invited into the fold is to have you back up your promise to be a better fan with hard currency. Make us think you love it…because you sure aren’t acting like it.
If there are any seats left after students and alums have their chance, an ebay style auction awaits you. Hope you ran your crew cheap enough to outbid that salesman who wants some seats to impress potential clients even though he went to Furman….
D. Have the 600 level go across the entire top of the stadium, but leave the west end open. Being able to gaze upon brick and oak, and remmeber the glory days is important to many a dawg fan. It may mean we never enclose the accoustics, but with the increased number of students present and at the ready, I’m sure that Sanford stadium will be heard into the far reaches of the stratosphere.
What your take on the seating policy?
