A Bama Fan Predicts That UGA Could Win SEC EAST

15 years 2 months ago #22747 by ugaa
I am cautiously excited heading into this year, yeah we lost a great QB and RB but sometimes the backups showed there wont be much of a drop off this year. I just hope joe cox is accurate and isnt trying to use this one year to get drafted, too many times last year I thought stafford was trying to show off his arm.

With all the players coming back from injury we shouldnt be as bad as some people are making the team out to be, hell we may even beat GT this year!

ugaa, people who didn't know that MS was using UGA and CMR's pro-style system just to get to the NFL were bat-blind. But hear me now and understand me later: no matter WHAT he does this year, short of winning the national title and the Heisman Joe Cox will not get drafted. I have no doubt that he'll make a team as an undrafted free agent, but nobody is going to draft Joe Cox. In his mind, this is his ONLY CHANCE to do something great on a national stage. I don't think he's going to pass this up.

The more I look at what happened last year the more I think we maybe should have only had one loss, to Florida, in a squeaker. When you take Jeff Owens and Trinton Sturdivant out of the equation, you lose leaders on the most important unit on either side of the ball: THE LINE. Add to that the fact that the de facto leader of the defense, Dannell Ellerbe, injured himself VERY early in the Alabama game (anyone watching the game with less than two beers in him could tell that the defense completely lost its mind when Dannell went down), and of course you've got a 31-0 deficit after the first half. But if you take away a touchdown and a field goal -- just ten points in the first half -- and assume that everything in the second half stayed the same for Georgia, you've got a 31-30 ballgame in 'Bama's favor, ASSUMING that Richt goes for that two-point conversion. Assuming he doesn't think he needs EVERY POINT HE CAN GET, you're going into overtime against a very good Bama team for the second year running, tied 31-31. I think veteran leadership takes those ten points away, I honestly do.

The loss of Dannell Ellerbe for a SECOND time in the Tech game, coupled with one or two other injuries sustained early in the second half, may POSSIBLY have contributed to those 24 unanswered points. I think we win that game without the injuries that occurred JUST WITHIN THAT GAME.

I still think Florida beats us last year, but I'll be DAMNED if it's a 39-point blowout.

We're going to shock some people...well, some people not named BeachBama ;)

Yesterday 8/29/2009, got to watch some football that I thoroughly enjoyed. First watched St. Thomas Aquinas, South Florida play Upper Arlington, Ohio. While I would never make fun of young men playing high school football, this was a total mismatch. Probably some of you watched this game also. Again, it goes to show the tremendous amount of talent that comes out of the Southeast, at the high school level. Just as intimidating as the SEC is compared to many conferences in the USA on the college level.

Watched replay of Georgia and Michigan State have a go at it in Orlando. My thoughts on watching this game for probably the fourth time or so . . . . fellow Dawgs, not telling you anything you don't already know, but if not . . . . Ben Jones is an animal. We hear coaches talk about \"nasty streaks\", Ben Jones got a double dose of \"nasty\" somewhere. I would hate to be face up with this dude for 4 quarters. He had the Michigan State defense coming from all angles taking cheap shots, and Ben just kept on kicking butt. WE NEED BEN JONES BACK FOR NEXT SATURDAY. Along with nasty he is the QB of our offensive line. Will add this . . . . BEN JONES IS NASTY. (SORRY, SAID THAT ALREADY). :woohoo: :woohoo:

P.S. Coach Smith said every player on Aquinas' roster played Saturday, something he hoped to accomplish after a few players were injured during last season's opener in Ohio, a victory against Elder High at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

BeachBama, totally agree with this assessment . . . .

Shaun Chapas may be one of the best fullbacks in the SEC. He reads blitzes well, can pound for short yardage and is dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield. He will once again be a very important part of this offense.
