Excited!!!

Some pretty exciting reading all around the media areas. Reading an article about Richard Samuel and how he has taken his game to another level. Going along with a lot of folks on this board that said we needed a big stud in the backfield. RS appears by all accounts to be the back that will continue the tradition at UGA and its running back excellence.

6'2\" and 225 pounds, and probably a fat level too low to even mention. Really excites me when I read about the speed that he has and is showing in practice. Did not realize that he was able to motor the way he does. That surely spells trouble for folks on the other side of the ball. This is the type of back that will hit you and make you wake up on the sideline sniffing those broken cotton tabs that make your head spin and eyes water. If RS is carrying 4.5 or better speed, breaking one up the middle or off tackle can mean so much to this team.

Chris Low, (think that is the writers name) ranked the SEC Offensive Lines and guess what if you have not read the column. UGA is ranked #1 and the writer gives some good reasons for that. Has UF ranked second even though they lost both tackles. Lots of talent on that club also. If the offensive line lives up to expectations this year, injury free, it will be a pleasure to run the ball or sit in the pocket and hit our receivers. Once again, so glad that we have a coach the caliber of Coach Searels. He must be beside himself also with the talent that surrounds him. That second unit could start for a lot of teams, and that is an honest statement on my part.

You folks know how I am, long winded, love the Dawgs and it is hard to shut up this time of the year. Getting close to that opening kickoff with OSU and the butterflies are beginning to fill my belly. Could not end this without saying . . . . Carlton Thomas will also make some huge plays for us this year.

Great post, Buc. Like you, I'm excited to get this season going. We've heard and read so much about this year's team, now I'm ready to SEE them perform.

Yeah Buc, I want to see this OL dominate like Bama's last year....and it could. Believe our offense will look like Bama's last year but with a couple of more weapons. Just wish the D could emulate Bama's!!!

Again, OSU is the \"turning point\" in our season. Huge psychological swing between winning and losing that game.

Read in one of the articles today that we were being looked at like Alabama's OL last year. If that is the case, I am one happy camper. They were physical to the point of being compared to NFL type of play. Again think that Coach Searels has to be beside himself with this group.

Another thing that I want to say. Cox at QB should be a real blessing to this young group of football players. He does not have all of the weight on his shoulders, he has folks around him that can and should take care of business. His advantage is that he KNOWS what and where every player on offense needs to be and when. I have watched a lot of QB's in my years and realize that the ones that understand and can pass the information along are usually winners. Cox will not be the downfall of this group, if there is one. He excites me. Also like number two, Logan Gray, think that he brings to the QB position what Carlton Thomas brings to the running back position. Change of pace and different skills can be tough for ANY DEFENSE to handle.

How many QB's have we seen in a long time that had Matt's arm, not many if any. That was his strong suit with UGA. He was able to use his legs on occasion, but for the most part if not handing off he was pitching. Not knocking Matthew, did pretty well for himself and appreciate the fact that we were able to watch him at UGA. Just a different type of QB than Cox and Gray.

Don't know how many games or quarters it will take for this years team to come together, but when they do, many surprises ahead for our opponents. Excited, yep, confident, yep. Feel this group will make us proud . . . . .YEP!

Agree Buc and a great analysis with LG and CT. Believe Stafford will be a better NFL QB than a college QB. The young man was meant to be in the NFL with elite recievers around him and playing with guys that are ALL at his level. At UGA, I felt that he thought he had to do TOO much, in the NFL that's not the case (well, maybe in Detroit). Cox and LG are great examples of college QB's. Team players that \"manage\" the team and the game and don't feel THEY have to win the games.

What I'm hoping is that RS can learn from what Knowshon did and avoid Danny Ware's mistakes. Danny was a big, strong, fast back, but he was a little too in love with his own feet and tended to dance a little bit too much before making a decision. I'm not saying Samuel's like this; I'm high on Samuel and have been since the 2008 G-Day game. What I'm saying is that one of the major differences between Knowshon's game and Danny Ware's game was that Knowshon picked a direction and ran in it. Danny danced around looking for the perfect angle, not realizing that the pocket was collapsing on him. Hopefully Richard will improvise as he's running, rather than overthinking before he takes off. That's the key.

I hate it, because he had so much promise and really hasn't been the same since the broken leg his senior year in high school, but I think Caleb's going to be best used as a hybrid player. Teach him to catch and block, and he can be dangerous as a do-all mixture of tailback, fullback and tight end. If you never know what he's going to do, if you never know where he is, he can hurt you. As a go-to tailback, though, I really don't have a lot of faith in him. Sorry, CK. I hope Coach Bobo uses you properly, and that you can accept the roles you're given.

The guy I'm highest on right now is Carlton Thomas. It's a weakness of mine; I love BURST. It's why I was enthralled with Noel Devine and Willie Parker. Carlton Thomas goes 0-to-100 in no time flat, and he finds holes. I like it.

Guys, I like our backfield. I haven't even mentioned Shaun Chapas yet, and that kid might have a season that ALMOST makes you forget about Brannan Southerland. I said ALMOST. But he's fast, he's got soft, soft hands, and oh yeah, the kid can block.

I know that the trendy pick is Florida in terms of exciting offenses in the SEC, but guys: we have some DYNAMIC weapons on offense. It's not unlike the combo we had in 2005; a veteran workhorse named Sean Bailey and a young, exciting, dynamic receiver named Mohammed Massaquoi. Now you're looking at \"Old Reliable\" Michael Moore, along with \"Mr. Excitement\" A.J. Green. Plus you have unproven quantities (X-factors) in Marlon Brown and Orson Charles. Oh, and Tavarres King. Plus a veteran O-line to protect Mr. Leadership, Joe Cox.

This thread is called \"Excited!\" When you truly take a look at the POTENTIAL our offense has, it's hard not to get excited. We're gonna score some damn points this year. Mark my words. Most of the SEC is NOT going to know what hit it.

Look, we were missing the cornerstone of our O-line last year in Trinton Sturdivant, and we couldn't keep a tight end healthy to save our lives. Brannan Southerland was out of the backfield until the Tennessee game, and he was nowhere near even a shadow of his former self for the rest of the season. Our kicker -- bless him, he should have a better year this year -- sometimes looked like he couldn't kick a stuck pig a foot in front of him.

Nevertheless, we scored 45 points against Georgia Southern, 56 against Central Michigan, 27 against Arizona State, 30 against Alabama, 26 against Tennessee, 24 against Vandy, 52 against LSU, 42 against Kentucky, 42 against Tech, and 24 against Michigan State.

So even with those dinged-up and banged-up and missing-in-action offensive starters, we STILL managed to score more than three touchdowns 10 times out of 12 last year. And now you're telling me we're going to give Joe Cox more time in the pocket than Stafford had, more weapons at receiver, twice as many tight ends, and a three-or-four-headed backfield?

Boys, if we score less than 17 at any point this season, either Mike Bobo's not doing his job or the opposing DC needs to win Assistant of the Year. I'm excited about this offense. If you're not, you're either mule-stubborn, bat-blind or stone dead.
