Final recruit cleared for entry
Finally, Kwame Geathers is officially a Georgia Bulldog.
The 6-foot-6, 320 pound offensive lineman from Carvers Bay, S.C. was cleared to enroll around 10 a.m. Thursday morning. Geathers was delayed while awaiting word from the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Georgia coach Mark Richt expects Geathers to arrive in Athens Thursday evening.
“He’ll have to go through five days of acclimation,” Richt said. “When we put our pads on and go [Monday], he won’t be able do that. He’ll be four days behind us.”
Geathers must first go through five days of practice with shorts and helmet only, under NCAA rules. Geathers missed all of summer workouts, putting him behind his fellow freshmen. Richt doesn’t expect to see an out-of-shape body coming in.
“I think he has been working,” he said “He comes from a family with a lot of pro ball players…they know what they need to do.”
Kwame’s older brother Robert, currently a Cincinnati Bengal, played at Georgia.
Geathers acceptance marked the last freshmen of the 2009 class to be admitted, with all players signed in February enrolling.
Geathers chose Georgia over offers from Florida State, Tennessee and South Carolina.
