Focus, Focus, Focus . . .

Picked the following quote up from Mark Bradley. Sums up my feelings for the upcoming season.

According to the Bulldogs, last season was an aberration. This year, they believe, we’ll again see Georgia as we’ve grown accustomed to seeing Georgia — as a tough team, as a clever team, as a team that has lost none of its edge and only a bit of momentum. Now all they have to do is go to Stillwater, Okla., and prove the point.

Really hope that we see the talent that is UGA flying around and making \"themselves proud\". If the team is happy, no doubt where we stand. Go Dawgs!

Excellent post, Buc.
I expect this team to surprise some so called pundits.

All of us get information one way or the other from those that cover our beloved Dawgs. Found this quote from David Hale more than interesting. Maybe I am reading between the lines, however I am glad to hear Coach Richt say that we will be utilizing our LB's a bit differently this year.

Putting some heat on the QB, taking away a second or less means an awful lot to our coverage. Really don't want to see a lot of the same thing we witnessed last year with LB's trying to cover WR's.

Again it seems that WM is not going to say a lot about what he plans to do. I can accept that, however it did catch my eye in the following article that we are hearing some defensive talk from Coach Richt prior to this season.

-- And a side note: How about changes to defensive schemes, you ask?

Well, we talked with Willie Martinez on Tuesday, and he wasn't exactly forthcoming with a lot of details. He did say that he expected Jeff Owens, Geno Atkins and Kade Weston to each see the field a lot this year -- though probably not at the same time.

The biggest change that will almost certainly be in store on that side of the ball is the use of linebackers as pass rushers, something Richt said will now be the standard philosophy on defense after experimenting with it with Brandon Miller two years ago and again with several veteran LBs this spring.

\"We felt like with Brandon Miller we probably didn't take advantage enough of his abilities,\" Richt said. \"He played Sam linebacker and when the Sam left the game he was standing on the sideline. He wasn't really producing for us. It was late in his career that we really found out that we should let this kid rush the passer in nickel situations. So we're basically making that our normal mode of operation now. If you're a Sam linebacker and it's nickel time, you're going to learn how to rush the passer. The more that people spread the less that you're going to play the Sam linebacker. We've got to get those Sam linebackers working.\"
