Ok guys with the season roughly 3 months away I would like to know how everyone feels about the coming season.

Everyone in the media has pretty much anointed UF as the national champs. Nobody believes we can dethrone UF and most media types think we are going to get pounded again in the Cocktail Party. Us dawg fans are hoping for another season like 05 when Shockley lead us to an SEC title after Greene left. I'm hoping for 10-2 again but I'm thinking 8-4 maybe 7-5. I think 10-2 is possible but it's going to depend on 3 keys.

1. Can Cox take over and be productive. I know he has never lost a game he started in but he is still kind of an unknown. I believe in him but can he come up with the big throws under pressure and hit the deep ball enough to keep the defenses honest.

2. Can our running game take the pressure off of Cox. With Moreno gone we have King, Samuels, Thomas and BIG maybe with Ealy.

3. Can CWM get our defense to play to potential. After getting scorched by Tech on the ground last year, getting hammered in Jax, and Bama coming to our house and us making JPW look like Joe Montana can Martinez turn it around and start shutting down good offenses. Heck Tech was even really that good IMO. 400+ yds on the ground and 6 passes all game just makes me sick. Starting in Stillwater is going to be a good indication of what to expect.

Tell me what you guys think. I'm excited and worried at the same time.

Go Dawgs!!!!

I've addressed these things in other posts, but I'll address them here point by point.

1) Joe Cox is a David Greene-type quarterback. The situation is not like Shockley taking over in 2005, but rather what it would have been like for David Greene to take over for Zeier. Cox also has far more weapons at his disposal, between the three- or four-headed monster that is our running game, Marlon Brown, A.J. Green, Orson Charles and Michael Moore. Cox is a born leader, and a good game manager. We'll see if he can do what the other number 14 did before him.

2) If Mike Bobo is worth his salt, then yes. We have far too many weapons to not take advantage both of our running game and AJ Green as a deep threat once we've established that run. Also, our offensive line will not only have gelled (mostly juniors and seniors now), but Trinton Sturdivant is back. Cox should have pockets like the ones on Andre the Giant's pants.

3) I don't know. But it's an odd-numbered year. CWM had great defensive years in 2005 and 2007. He had ten thousand injuries last year, most on the defensive side of the ball (Jeff Owens, Marcus Washington, Dannell Ellerbe, and the list goes on). Geno Atkins is back, when everyone thought he'd go first-round in this year's draft. Jeff's back. Marcus is back. Rennie Curran is a beast. Justin Houston will be a beast when he comes back from suspension. It's time for Rod Battle to live up to his potential.

The answer is, Getdown11, that everyone is downgrading the Dawgs this year because we performed poorly for a preseason number one last year. We're going to be punished with a #16 preseason ranking.

We were ranked 16th when we won the national title in 1980. So to hell with everyone else, and GLORY GLORY TO OLE GEORGIA!!!

My thoughts are very short and to the point.

Offense: We will be a carbon copy of Alabama last year......methodical but effective.

Special Teams: We will be much better in this area, especially with the explosive potential we have with the return games. Plus Walsh should be better.

NOW....Defense: We will not be a carbon copy of Alabama's defense of last year. CWM has got to prove it to me plus we are still weak at DE.

Bottom line. IF we rise to the occasion and have a D similar to Bama's then we should look just like Bama this year. But just believe the difference between us and this year and Bama last year will be CWM.....therefore we will lose 3 maybe 4 games. My potential losses are OSU, LSU, UF and GT. Believe we can win one of the first two, OSU or LSU therefore the 3 losses.

NOW 2010 is a diffent story!!

Well, wlayton, if we have another year like last year, you can guarantee 2010 is a different story, because CWM won't have a job, head coach's roommate or no head coach's roommate. Some things just aren't tolerated at UGA. Ask Jim Donnan.

My belief is that Cox is going to be a Super QB. Our offensive and defensive lines will be a LOT better, and we will win them all. Don't forget the trenches and the Big Uglies. Undefeated season.
That is my belief. Probably should be plural.

Yeah dapolla, you are exactly right. That being said, I just feel we are still one year away from being REALLY, REALLY good. With Murray next year and a year under the new freshman WR's belts, plus that OL and believe we will have the DE position resolved.

To me, no matter what CWM does this year, believe we could still lose 3 games because the D just isn't quite ready. Just can't discount how important the DE position is to a D.

I certainly hope we can be last year's Alabama. Next year we will be MUCH more explosive and hopefully with a D that can shut people down.
