I've addressed these things in other posts, but I'll address them here point by point.
1) Joe Cox is a David Greene-type quarterback. The situation is not like Shockley taking over in 2005, but rather what it would have been like for David Greene to take over for Zeier. Cox also has far more weapons at his disposal, between the three- or four-headed monster that is our running game, Marlon Brown, A.J. Green, Orson Charles and Michael Moore. Cox is a born leader, and a good game manager. We'll see if he can do what the other number 14 did before him.
2) If Mike Bobo is worth his salt, then yes. We have far too many weapons to not take advantage both of our running game and AJ Green as a deep threat once we've established that run. Also, our offensive line will not only have gelled (mostly juniors and seniors now), but Trinton Sturdivant is back. Cox should have pockets like the ones on Andre the Giant's pants.
3) I don't know. But it's an odd-numbered year. CWM had great defensive years in 2005 and 2007. He had ten thousand injuries last year, most on the defensive side of the ball (Jeff Owens, Marcus Washington, Dannell Ellerbe, and the list goes on). Geno Atkins is back, when everyone thought he'd go first-round in this year's draft. Jeff's back. Marcus is back. Rennie Curran is a beast. Justin Houston will be a beast when he comes back from suspension. It's time for Rod Battle to live up to his potential.
The answer is, Getdown11, that everyone is downgrading the Dawgs this year because we performed poorly for a preseason number one last year. We're going to be punished with a #16 preseason ranking.
We were ranked 16th when we won the national title in 1980. So to hell with everyone else, and GLORY GLORY TO OLE GEORGIA!!!
