As an Oklahoma State alum it is a little hard for me to not feel a little screwed over by the new format. If this were played under last year's format the Cowboys would have added their 12th national championship in golf *yesterday* after winning the tournament by 13 strokes. The play today felt a little like playing three quarters of football and being up by three touchdowns, but only using that to decide who got the ball first in the fourth quarter.
Incidentally, this isn't the first time the Bulldogs have benefited over the Pokes from a change in format in the nationals... happened in baseball, too, the year the CWS changed to a single game championship from the winners of two 4-team brackets. Oklahoma State went into the championship game undefeated, the Dawgs with 1 loss. Under the previous year's format the Dawgs would have had to beat the Pokes twice. 1-0. I think it was the only game all year the Pokes had been shut out.
Well, here's hoping that can try it again in Omaha... congrats to the Links Dawgs, and hey, the trophy might as well come back to Athens. Go Dawgs!
GATA! Woof!
