Brannan Southerland:

25 starts (0 in 2008)
35 receptions for 289 yards and five TD
83 carries for 171 yards and 17 TD
Averaged 2.1 (!) yards per carry
Averaged 8.6 (!!!) yards per reception
First fullback to lead UGA in scoring in 49 years in 2006 (Theron Sapp, 1957)
2005 SEC Champion

I know that some would say I'm stepping on the memory of The Droughtbreaker, but I think Brannan Southerland was the best fullback our Dawgs have ever had. I think he's right up there in terms of the best college fullbacks ever. He wasn't huge. He simply did his job. He did his job, and the tailback's job, and the tight end's job, and occasionally the split end's job. Brannan Southerland is an all-around great football player with fantastic heart and an incredible work ethic. There's nothing I can say that would do The Big Sledgehammer justice, so I'll leave it at that. But look...you tot up all the injuries we had this year, and I think the one that hurt us the most -- at least on the offensive side -- was Brannan Southerland.

We'll miss you, Brannan. For four years, you were my favorite guy to watch suit up. I mean that. You're right up there with David Pollack for me. Get after 'em in the NFL, and keep being the great man that you are.

From everybody, on my count: DAMN! GOOD! DAWG!!!

Dapolla may know this as well but a friend of mine was telling me tied again for the most drafts for the second year in a row. Is that factoid right? Either way it sounds really great. Go Dawgs!

Hey guy's, what about a fellow named Brad Johnson. Won the Jacobs award as the best blocking fullback in the nation. Don't have a UGA's sport encyclopedia down loaded on my desktop, but he played on the same team with Jake Scott and the rest of Dooley's SEC champ team in the late 60's. Played at Avondale High in Dekalb county. He could lay the wood to you.
As always, GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read in the USA Today on my flight from ATL to Salt Lake earlier today that UGA had 6 players drafted, and I believe we tied LSU for most of any SEC school with those 6. USC led the way (by far) with 11 players drafted.

Interestingly, Univ. of Miami, which I'm almost 100% sure has the current lead regarding most players on current NFL rosters ONLY had 1 player taken in the 2009 NFL Draft. Somebody posed the question earlier in this thread, I'm not sure of the official number but my memory tells me UGA has well over 40 former players currently on NFL rosters and we just gained AT LEAST 5 spots on Miami so we've gotta be really close to the top and probably pushing 50 former Dawgs on NFL rosters come opening day 2009!

That's gotta make you proud to be a DAWGS fan but it also makes you wonder like wlayton stated? Still, I trust the top Dawg of our coaching staff, CMR, will pull it all together and we WILL get that elusive NC one of these years and real soon (my patience is good for about another 3-4 years). MY GOSH, I can't wait for opening day in Stillwater but until then, Go Net Dawgs, Go Diamond Dawgs, and Go Braves!
