What Do We Do When We Fall Off the Horse?

Hopefully the Diamond Dawgs can get right back up on that horse for today's 18-inning double-header against Winthrop. Dropping that weekend series against LSU sure takes some of the sweetness off of the Clemson sweep, but at least we have the opportunity to avenge last year's ridiculous loss to a terrible Winthrop team by beating a much-improved Eagles squad. Saw this team look pretty good in a 2-0 loss of a pitcher's duel against UNCC recently, so they might give our Dawgs' bats a bit of trouble, but I predict two wins today. Then it's time to head up to Lexington and feast on Wildcat meat.

Is it just me or is the West REALLY good this year? True, we swept perennial contender Mississippi State, but the series losses to Alabama and LSU, coupled with the fact that Auburn's doing well and Arkansas looks like a national title contender, frighten me.

Ah, well. One series at a time. GO DAWGS!!! Please just win this doubleheader so I can go back to rooting for Winthrop and Georgia!

An update: we split the doubleheader with Winthrop, losing 8-4 in the opener and winning 13-3 in the night game. We are now ranked fifth in the country going into our weekend series with Kentucky in Lexington. Time to get healthy, Dawgs! Bring the brooms with you, we NEED them!

Also, the Lady Diamond Dawgs went to Atlanta yesterday and beat the lady gNATS by a score of 7-5. Good job, ladies!!!

More updating: We swept the Saturday doubleheader with Kentucky with 7-4 decisions in each game and won the Sunday game in a thriller, 5-4. Coupled with some key losses by Florida and Arkansas, we have now moved into first place in the SEC East by two games and first place in the SEC overall by 1/2 a game! GO DAWGS!!!

Even more updating: our Diamond Dawgs, perhaps hearing about the Gym Dawgs' dominant performance at NCAAs, scored Johnathan Taylor on a Matt Cerione single in the bottom of the ninth to beat #5 Arkansas 4-3 and take a 1 1/2 game lead in the overall SEC standings. GO DAWGS!!!

Matt Cerione just scored Miles Starr FROM FIRST BASE in the bottom of the ninth to beat Arkansas...drum roll please...4-3! Georgia maintains its lead in the SEC overall. Good night. Absolutely riveting games, both of them. GO DAWGS!!!

By the way, Jeff Dantzler just said we're 5-0 in one-run games, including three one-runners in a row in the SEC going back to Sunday's 5-4 win over Kentucky.
