Our series against the Mississippi State Bulldogs is off to a good start. Glad to see our boys can gut out a two-run victory as well as outscore teams. I was pretty worried after the only victory we could muster over an SEC opponent was a 10-8 affair in the third game of a lost series, but Trevor Holder (who got rocked against 'Bama in game one) pitched solidly and only gave up two runs as the Dawgs beat the Impostors 5-3 in Athens.
Matt Cerione made a spectacular diving catch in the fourth to save a run; he and Peter Verdin criss-crossed each other perfectly and Cerione came up with it. But the true highlight of the evening came in the seventh with two on and two out when Verdin toppled over the bullpen fence in right, rolled over twice, and came up with the ball! He was so pumped at ending the inning that he didn't even wait to get back onto the field of play; he just hurled that ball back to the mound from the pen! It was incredible!
Let's keep it going today at three, Classic City! GO DAWGS!!!
