Congratulations to our Georgia Gym Dogs, who opened Suzanne Yoculan's final season with a 195.425-194.075 victory over West Virginia last night. Perhaps the best moment in the whole meet was Courtney Kupets posting a 9.950 in the floor routine after popping her Achilles tendon last year, causing her to miss the SEC and National Championships. The most baffling moment was Grace Taylor's 9.800 on beam, the lowest of Georgia's qualifying scores. Anyone else watch the meets from last year? I don't know that I've ever seen a more fluid, beautiful, graceful beam performer than Grace Taylor.
Coach Yoc said that the team needs to shake off the rust, because for a #1 team, they didn't look it against the Lady Mountaineers last night.
We are going for history here, folks. Suzanne Yoculan would be the only coach and Georgia would be the only school with 10 national titles. Greg Marsden and Utah currently also have nine. We would also be only the second team in history to win five national titles in a row (Utah won the first five national titles in history and placed second the next two years) and would outpace the closest team in the SEC (Florida, with 6) by 11 SEC titles if we win there this year.
Not bad. Not bad. GO DAWGS!!!
