Another spread offense to run all over a CWM coached defense.

Yet on the other hand:

Is it just my warped opinion or is part of our problem defending some of these offenses is that we run such a traditional pro style offense that we can't simulate them well enough in practice for our defense to adapt?

Kind of like back in some of the Dooley days of power football...we couldn't pass and that was always our defensive weakness. If you can't practice against it
makes it hard to learn it.

But either way you still have to be able to tackle.

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

I would think there is a lot of truth in what you said, it certinly is difficult to simulate a spread or triple option when you run a pro style offense. The good news is eventually D's will catch on and learn how to shut it down......especially when they start tackling.

Wait a second, folks. We've had trouble defending the spread exactly three times that I can remember. Against Troy (we won 44-34), against Florida this year but NOT last year or the year before, and against Tech, but only in the second half, after two defensive starters (Evans and Gamble) had sustained season-ending injuries. Don't say we can't defend the spread just yet, as we've handled a lot of spreads easily in the past.

The way I see it, Auburn has hired another troubled, gimmick-oriented OC a la Tony Franklin. Let's not forget that Malzahn's offense struggled against real teams like LSU and Florida when he was at Arkansas, and that he has only proven himself in high school and at Tulsa, where he failed to win the C-USA title. Don't panic just yet, folks. Georgia is still a good team when we're not completely crippled up and caught off-guard. True, we need to rush the passer more, but beyond that, you guys are talking like we're Mississippi State or something. Chill out. We're 9-3. Get geared up for the bowl.

Isn't Maszahn the coach hired by Nutt to bring in a top quarterback? Then the QB defects to USC, Malzahn gets fired, and Nutt moves to Mississippi. Is this the same guy?

Bring on the spread. Defenses will catch up with it. Only a matter of time.
