So what do you Dawgs think if we lose Rodney Garner to Auburn as the rumors seem point? I know its far from a done deal, but if CMR is coming out saying that he is throwing his full support behind Rodney for the head coaching job, then there must be some mileage behind the rumor.

My thoughts are that the wrong defensive coach is leaving us and that takes a chunk of our recruiting power away. I know Rodney is a Auburn alum and that has to be enticing, as SEC vacancies are not common and especially being in a position to take over the reigns of a program like Auburn's.

Again, at this point it is speculation, but I would not be surprised.

If he leaves, the defense just gets that much worse next season.

Well, I am with CMR. Never try to stop someone from advancing. Push for them, and then get the best replacement available. Our team will be fine. And good luck to him if he gets the job. But, I do not believe he will get an offer from Auburn.

EngDawg, cannot disagree with any of the points you have made. I often check the young men being recruited to UGA and the folks that are spending the most time in this area. RG is the name that stands out among all of the folks on the trail. I am some what at a loss when I see WM's name mentioned the least when it comes to recruiting. I know that all of the recruiting data is not released to folks like us, just strikes me as being odd that what I can find on recruiting does not impress me with the efforts of the Defensive Coordinator. Trying not to bash, just pointing out what I have been able to focus on and come to my own conclusion. RG leaving would not help UGA's recruiting at all. Go Dawgs!

I was glad when we talked him into coming to UGA. living in TN the folks up here were sad to see him go and look at their recruiting since. i have heard the alum at Auburn want a big name coach. so i expect a shocker here and if it's RG than thanks for the years and good luck. that would be a huge shocker to me since he has never been a DC or OC. i will give him a chance at DC and that will solidify him a HC in less than 3 years and us having a chance at a good defense. this has been a weird year in football and we thought last year couldn't be topped. WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

golferdawg, Notre Dame wanted a big name also. Not to be ugly . . . . they got BIG. Huge contract and not a lot to show for the bucks spent to this point. I don't know that much about RG, just what I read. I look over the recruiting of players and by whom they were recruited. RG's name comes up a lot. More than some that I would like to see listed and contributing to UGA. Might be time for serious consideration as to who coaches what . . . . .Go Dawgs!

Not necessarily a big name, but someone in the running who has interviewed and should sensibly be the leading candidate for the job is Turner Gill at Buffalo. He orchestrated such a huge turnaround so quickly there he has already demonstrated what a team in the SEC wants. Not that it will come as easily, but he has proven he can do it.

We need RG to stay. He is huge for our recruiting and TN fans are still envious that we have him on our side now.
