Special teams killed us again. If I were in a fantasy league, the UGA D and Special Teams would be one I would stay away from. I know injuries had a lot to do with it, but hey look on the bright side -- Logan Gray actually had some return yards on a punt. Also, the \"bend not break\" philosophy on D doesn't work when you break every other time.
The fumble by Richard Samuel was a game breaker. This guy was a five star coming out of high school, but I seem to remember him fumbling on more than one occasion this season, including his first carry as a Bulldog. This worries me as he may be Knowshon's replacement next year. Make him carry the football around all day every day and have people try to make him fumble it. We can't have him making poor decisions next year. Hopefully, he will end up being a good back at UGA.
I'm normally an optimist and I've been getting on all of my friends for being so negative about the Bulldogs, but after this game I'm not sure I expect us to win our bowl game. Georgia Tech scored 45 points off of 19 PASSING YARDS! We knew what was coming and we had two weeks to prepare for it. Even with the injuries, this team has to much talent for something like that to happen. In a normal season 9 - 3 might not be bad, and I still think we have one of the best programs in the country, but this wasn't supposed to be a normal season. It was supposed to be our shot at the title. And the fact that our offense has showed up the last couple of games makes our defensive struggles that much worse to deal with.
Perhaps I'm overreacting and maybe it was all a consequence of injuries. However, that loss stung deep (no pun intended). It will be interesting to see if there are any changes with the coaching staff, which players declare for the draft, and if we actually end up having a good record next year (which I predict we will). A.J. Greene's disgust at the holding calls was obvious today. He'll be a record-breaking receiver at UGA, to look on the bright side.
