Oh, don't think for a second I won't be fired up for the game, it's just that you can only stick your hand in the fire so many times before you learn ahead of time you're going to get burned. I'll always love my Dawgs, but for the love of Dooley, enough is enough.

I think it's important to remember what happened during the Dooley years when we're upset about what's going on now in Athens.

Vince Dooley came to Athens in 1964. In his first five years, he won two SEC titles. That probably sounds familiar, as Mark Richt has done the same thing. Vince then proceeded to come close to the precipice of the SEC crown on several occasions (1971 and 1975 being the most frustrating) before finally tying Kentucky for the greatest prize in football in 1976. That's eight years after his second SEC title. He then proceeded to have his only losing season ever in 1977 before coming JUST THIS CLOSE in 1978 and 1979, when we would have won the SEC championship but for Auburn. He then won three SEC titles in a row when we had the greatest tailback in the history of the sport.

Wally Butts won SEC titles in 1942, 1946 and 1948. It then took him ELEVEN YEARS to win his fourth and final crown. Hell, even Ray Goff would have had a chance to play for the title in 1992 if he had beaten Florida. These things are hard to win, boys. Let's not make Mark Richt the greatest coach in UGA history when he's winning and yearn for Dooley and Butts when he's not. Remember: Butts had a losing record all-time against Georgia Tech. Dooley couldn't beat Auburn to save his life. Richt has winning records against both, a winning record against Tennessee, and a winning record against Alabama. No other Georgia coach can boast that.

Our D is having a horrible year. This is true. But keep in mind that many MANY other Georgia coaches have come up just short. Mark Richt did so this year, just like Vince Dooley did three years after his second SEC title, in 1971 when the Dawgs were 11-1 and lost to...hm...oh yeah, Auburn! Let's stop all the complaining and be thankful that we have a coach who can put us in position to beat Auburn for a third straight year. We can beat Tech for an eighth straight year. We can play in the Cotton Bowl, the Capitol One Bowl, or, if we get into that top six after Championship Weekend, even the Sugar Bowl for a second straight year. Stand up, Dawgs. It's time to beat some Plainsman tail!

We trail by three games in the Oldest Rivalry in the Deep South. Time to cut that lead and show Auburn who's boss down south! GO DAWGS!

It's also worth mentioning that Vince Dooley had an 8-10-2 record in the postseason. Is that something we'd really like to go back to? If he wins this year's bowl game, Coach Richt will be 6-2 and will be poised to win as many bowl games in his first ten years as Dooley won in his career.

Different times, Different expectations.
Coaching was much more classy back then. Bear Bryant would go to the other team's locker room after a 'Bama loss and congratulate them on a good game.
Coach Richt has that class, one of the few left.
