First Skip Caray passed away, then Larry retired. Now Pete Van Wieren has announced his retirement. Georgia sports fans, we're losing our greatest voices. I think that now more than ever it's important not only to remember their contributions to our enjoyment of each and every Braves and Bulldogs game, but to listen to the radio during games and allow Scott Howard and the new Braves announce team (when they're announced) to have their shot at history.
No one thought Skip and Pete could fill the void left by Ernie Johnson, nor was Larry Munson granted instant celebrity status after Ed Thilenius called it quits. But loyal attention to them built years worth of memories. Let's listen to the new voices and remember the old.
dapolla, worked with an advertising agency located on Peachtree in the early 70's. One of the great hangouts during that time was the Tree on Peachtree, a very popular hangout for sports figures. Won't go into great detail, but Skip was a \"hoot\" and could put them away. Did so myself. Larry Munson actually got a bad deal while with the Braves, think that Bill Bartholomew was the owner then. Milo Hamilton became the voice of the Braves, had to put up with him on my employers quail hunting preserve in Winder. Will stop there, yes it is a changing of the guard, which some of us have seen more than once.
