The Plant-Hillsborough rivalry is the county’s oldest, and it’s clearly one of the hardest-hitting, too.
Plant quarterback Aaron Murray is probably out for the season after dislocating his left ankle, and breaking his left fibula, near the end of the second quarter on a hit from Hillsborough’s Victor Bynum with the Panthers leading the Terriers, 28-21.
With Murray’s teammates gathered at midfield and praying for him, Plant’s medical staff popped the ankle back into place, but the fibula fracture is far more serious.
According to Plant coach Robert Weiner, Murray will have surgery next week, which will determine how long his rehab will take.
“It could be six weeks, which means he could be back for the playoffs, or it could be the season,” Weiner said.
Before the injury, Murray had thrown for 205 yards and three touchdowns against Hillsborough. He also had rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown.
