One of the top linebackers in the state of Georgia is Kelvin Sheppard. Sheppard is a very athletic outside linebacker out of Stone Mountain, Ga. Many unofficial visits were taken over the summer and he added one more this past weekend. Sheppard drove over to Athens for the second week in a row for an unofficial. He talks about his visit and his favorites right here with UGASports.com.[more]

Munzenmaier to UGA
by Chad Simmons
One of the hidden gems in the state of Georgia this year is Fred Munzenmaier of Norcross High School. He was sitting on eight offers until his the most recent one arrived. Offer number nine came in and it was from Georgia and that led him to give Georgia his commitment shortly there after. He talks about his decision right here at UGASports.com. [more]

Dawgs serious about ULM
by Brad Harrison
Georgia head coach Mark Richt has done a lot since his arrival in December of 2000 to bring back memories of a time when Vince Dooley roamed the sidelines as the Bulldogs' head coach, leading the Bulldogs to the 2002 SEC title and a place among the nation's top 10 programs. This week, he's stealing another page from Dooley, building up Saturday's opponent, Louisiana-Monroe, as a team with a great chance of upsetting the Dawgs. [more]

Brown takes a breather

It was a career high day for sophomore tailback Thomas Brown. The 144 yards he amassed in the 17-15 win over South Carolina is his most so far in a single game, and has put him at No. 2 in the SEC in total yards rushed so far this season. All this after just eight carries for just 42 yards in week one. "I really do not focus on it because I know there are going to be games when I get a lot of touches and some games I may not," said the sophomore from Tucker. [more]

Georgia no longer has an interception problem  8)

After intercepting fewer passes than all but three Division I-A teams last season, the No. 9 Bulldogs knew they needed to create more turnovers in the passing game. Most of the focus was on new techniques, better skills and different game plans, but first-year defensive coordinator Willie Martinez wanted a change in attitude, too.

Towards the end of June, Ricky Sapp, the number two ranked player in South Carolina, gave his verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers. His verbal commitment still stands, but he has opened his recruitment back up just a bit. What other schools will get visits from Sapp? Find out right here![more]

Jennings: A Rivalry Game

Growing up in Orangeburg, S.C., Tim Jennings followed Clemson and South Carolina closely. Now, he has a chance to end his college career with a perfect record against both of them. "I just want to go out of there undefeated so I'll have something to talk about at home," Jennings said. Jennings, a 5-foot, 8-inch senior cornerback for the Bulldogs weighing in at 172 pounds, hasn't tasted defeat against either the Gamecocks or Tigers. [more]

Ready for first official

Summer workouts, two a days, camps, combines and the first day of school have all come and gone. Last week (September 1st) the coaches were allowed to call the prospects, and Micah Johnson received quite a few calls. College football kicked off last weekend and now Johnson is set to take official visits. The University of Georgia will get Johnson's first of his five official visits and that visit will start Friday. He talks about what he will look for in a school during an official right here. [more]

Richt happy with Monday practice

The Georgia football team turned its attention to this week's Southeastern Conference opener with a practice session on Monday that lasted approximately 90 minutes.

Richt talks BSU/USC

Fresh off a  48-14 dispatching of No. 18 Boise State, Mark Richt and the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs are getting ready to face another passing attack Saturday when Steve Spurrier's "Cock N' Fire" offense comes to town. Richt, who coached against Spurrier in 2001 at Georgia, also faced Spurrier as an assistant at Florida State from 1990 to 2000. Just from watching Thursday night's ESPN broadcast, he saw a lot of familiar images from the Gamecock offense in their 24-15  win over UCF.

Boise State Press Conference
8/30/2005 - Football
" 8) We're excited about this game, its been talked about a lot, probably more than most for us, and that's because we're playing a great team. Boise State has a very talented football team, they are very well coached. It's a team that wins almost every time they play. I have a lot of respect for what Coach Hawkins has done with that program. I think they've won 44 games in four years and only lost six." More>>

Wednesday Practice Notes
by Todd Unzicker
The Georgia Bulldogs held practice in shorts and helmets in what head coach Mark Richt called a "dress-dress rehearsal." Normally, Thursdays before a game day are reserved for no contact and mental aspects of the upcoming game but the coaching staff felt that the players had enough of banging and needed two days of non contact. [more]

Dennis Roland is a big man on a big offensive line. The 6-foot-9, 309 pound senior tackle has been on the two-deep depth chart for all of his career and started in 2004, and has emerged as a leader of the 2005 Georgia offense. UGASports.com spoke with the Coffee County Hustle Award winning after practice one Wednesday and here is a brief transcript of what he had to say.

Senior cornerback Tim Jennings has seen a lot of good passing teams and wide receivers in his career at Georgia, and this Saturday the season opener against Boise State will be nothing new. UGASports.com caught up with Jennings Wednesday after practice to get his thoughts on how game preparations are going, his take on the Bronco offense, and other issues. Here is a Q&A. "People like to talk a lot about them because of the kind of past that they have had, but they have not come across a team like Georgia....."

by Jeremy Crabtree of Rivals100.com
Teams from all over the country have already racked up quite a few commitments – Texas already has 24 pledges and North Carolina is right behind them with 22 – but for most college programs around the nation, recruiting season officially heats up on Thursday. That's when for the first time since May college coaches can contact recruits on the telephone.[more]

Jancek Confident
by Steve Patterson
John Jancek has a lot of big shoes to fill. Not only is he taking over for Brian VanGorder as Georgia's linebacker coach, but he is also fielding a first team unit that were not starters in 2004. Nevertheless, he is confident as the Bulldogs head into their season opener against Boise State this Saturday. [more]

Dawgs hope to outlast Broncos
by Steve Patterson

It seems as if took forever to get here, but at long last it is; Georgia will open the 2005 season against Boise State this coming Saturday in Athens. "I remember back in the spring I was like: we've got to go through the whole summer, we've got to go through fall camp, we've got to go through so much just to get to September 3rd," said quarterback D.J. Shockley. "Now all that flew by and the summer went so fast and now it's here - it's really here." [more]

A.J. & T.J. ready

by Steve Patterson
One of the burning questions around Athens the past few months has been who would step up at receiver to replace those who left following the 2004 season. Starters Bryan McClendon and Sean Bailey have been able to hold down the first team assignments, but for the longest time nobody really surfaced from the gaggle of talent behind them to provide depth, but late last week the picture began to come clear.
