Carolina Game

All in all after the Carolina game it is just what our team and coaches needed in order to be brought down to reality. We all know we should have won by more points, however it was just one of those games. Teams that play tough games like that have an advantage of teams who have not. The inexperienced players will benefit highly from playing a game like that and the coaches will have a much better idea of the young players strengths and weaknesses after watching the film and will only improve. It was a typical UGA/USC game and we got the typical treatment by the refs in being away in an SEC game. I think our players initially overlooked USC (thanks to Vandy) and all teams overlook at least 1 opponent on their schedule, but the great teams are able to overcome it and find a way to win late in the 4th quarter when it takes heart to win and we showed that and didn't give up. Also it seemed like all the clock delays and other various stoppages by the confusing refs happened to occur when we had momentum and we became frustrated and lost focus. We will regroup this week and take it to Arizona St. We may not blow them out, but we will play much cleaner and more focused and the blown coverages will be reduced.

Great post McShea, I totally agree! This kind of an \"ugly\" win should only help strengthen our team in the long run. File this win under the category of:
\"Winning a game when you didn't play your best football\"...That's what CHAMPIONS tend to do!
Last year, against SC we definitely didn't play our best yet we LOST...huge difference in WINNING ugly and LOSING ugly.

This is the kind of win that makes champions. We need to learn and improve and I think we will.

I think this game shows that there are weakness on the line and the coaches got away from something that worked so well at the end of last year, the dump off passes that turned in to long gains. I don't know if they aren't calling them or if Stafford just isn't checking off to them but its obvious that Carolina just wanted to stack the box to stop Moreno. If they would have dumped a couple off just to keep them honest they would have scored 40. Of course this is just couch coaching but the short dump pass routes seemed to be there and they did it last year with great effectiveness.

Also, I assume that is supposed to be Garrison Hearst's name up top and was wondering why it was misspelled.

Stafford usually uses almost every second of the play clock when checking off, but the play clocks weren't working and i'm assuming he only knew when there was 10 seconds left and probably saw things with under 10 seconds to check off but he was not sure if he had time so he couldn't.

McShea87,
I agree w/ Average; that's a very good post you made. Gave me something positive to hang my hat on that I had not thought about after this scrape-by victory. Yes, we did get tested under some kind of strange forms of adversity--the clocks malfunctioning, some dropped passes reminiscent of 2007, etc--but as you imply, it will likely do us good in the long run. The l o n g r u n !
