Worst ending to a football game ever... was created by UGAChemDawg
This weekend, I personally witnessed what was perhaps the worst ending to a football game ever. At least the worst I've ever heard of.
The South Georgia Wildcats arena football team was hosting their first ever home playoff game in Albany, GA against the Manchester Wolves from New Hampshire.
We had the lead 42-39 with a minute left. They were driving the ball downfield and were near our goal line and about to score. Our defense comes up with an interception at the goal line. This is time for the celebration to begin. There was a minute left and we just intercepted the football. This game is over. The other team's fans are heading for the exits. We are all jumping up and down screaming and giving congratulatory hugs and hand-shakes.
Well, our center screws up the snap and we fumble. They recover and score on the next play and win the game 46-42. Unbelievable.
Man, I hope something like that never happens to the Dawgs!

I just watched a \"College Flash Classic\" of the 1996 Ole Miss game where something very close to that happened. Ole Miss is winning 31-27 and throws an interception in the end zone. Our defender, not knowing where he is on the field, runs it out to the one. On the first play from scrimmage, Mike Bobo throws an incredible bomb to Hines Ward, who would have won the game for us had he beaten one defender. We screw up the next four downs and Ole Miss takes over on downs. We lose, 31-24, the week after the Miracle on the Plains, taking us out of bowl contention. VERY unnerving...

There was one back a while in Texas......
Plano was down 24 points with 3 minutes left and came back to take the lead. They then lost when the kick returner took it all the way back for the winning TD.

The worst finish I remember was the ending of the 1999 UGA/GT game. Sanks' non-fumble leading to OT, and the total de-flating of the team in OT which led to a Tech win.
