This stings....

Hate to say this but does the word \"choke\" come to mind?

We certainly saved our worst for last.

I actually feel like the Diamond Dawgs owe their fans an apology at this point.

It would have been one thing if they had actually SWUNG at called strike 3 down the middle. Beckam was the only one who acted like he gave a damn.

In terms of both strategy and passion for the game, this is the worst Dawg performance I've ever seen from a team in any sport. They left their hearts in the hotel room before the game.

I think they watched too much ESPN. Having said that baseball is not football, or for that matter like any other sport. Emotion will only take you so far. It's mainly pitching which make this pill even more difficult to swallow.

To be fair -- and God it's hard to do that the day after -- but to be fair, their pitcher DID throw over 100 pitches, he DID go 8 innings, he only walked one, struck out nine...he carved us up, folks. The game we should be mad at is Game 2. I think our boys showed up for this one. After all, the only people who did anything at all against us were Susdorf and Detwiler. We basically sat everybody else down. Game 2 we had in our pockets after a couple of innings, and we blew it with poor pitching. Don't begrudge our Dawgs for last night.

Tuesday, however, is a different story. That was our game to win. Justin Wilson, however, at least for that night, was the real deal. He absolutely carved us up.

I agree, dapolla, about Tuesday night. But for last night, I don't think Wilson was nearly as good as we made him look. Our at-bats were less than stellar to say the least. Half of our at-bats were exactly the same--hold the bat on your shoulder for two beautiful strikes, then swing at the breaking ball in the dirt. He pitched a decent game, and did what he had to do, but we really helped him by letting him get ahead of practically every count then looking silly on his money pitches. And our pitching decisions, whether made by the coaches or the pitcher, were atrocious. How many times does a batter have to hurt you before you pitch around him? Especially when you have a strikeout king batting right after him. I think we choked.

That being said, congrats to Fresno. And congrats to the Dawgs on a great season. I never expected us to get out of a bracket with Miami and FSU anyway, so the championship series was a bonus to me.

Oh yeah, and is it time for football season yet????

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!
