Hi Buc, Old Memorial Stadium was a high school field. The enrolement at Georgia was 5000 or 6000 at the time. We started playing home & home in 1958 and won the SEC at home in 1959. The stadium in Jax is a great venue. It's a late fall mini-break for many folks in North Georgia and a windfall for the economy in South Georgia. I love the trip and looked forward to going down each year when I held season tickets. I still go down to Amelia, play golf and watch the game on the tube at the condo. Crazy, but I love it

DawgDoc, so many memories from Columbus, Georgia. As a young sprout can remember going to Memorial Stadium and the surrounding area. That is where the county/state fairs were when I was a youngster. Cotton candy and people on the flying trapeze, lions and tigers in cages, that sort of thing. WWII came to a close, and of course Fort Benning played a huge part in that part of our lives. I agree with you and wlayton about keeping the game in JAX, would rather kick their butts in \"South Georgia\" than Atlanta. Have a friend in my area that was born and raised in JAX, never let him breathe when we are tipping a few. Remind him that he grew up in South Georgia (JAX). All in good fun. Hips don't allow me to play with the two iron anymore, but golf has been a huge part of my life. Enjoy your occasional posts, I bow to my senior.

Memorial Stadium is STILL a high school field....I know they were going to play the AAA title game there this past season but didnt, either because Carver-Columbus didnt win the coin flip, or because the seating at Memorial was inadequate.......they still play HS football there, though.

I remember going there as a kid to watch high school games. My Dad would drive through hell and half of Georgia to see a ball game.

Buc & wlayton, Don't bow to low, you'll might throw your backs out. Hips are bad news Buc, my problem is the old rotator cuff, rt. shoulder. Doesn't bother the golf game though, a righty doesn't have to due much with the right arm except to guide the follow through. Otherwise at 76yrs and holding, my health has been good. Thank GOD! Plan to get over to G-DAY on Sat. Will park around Conor Hall on Ag Hill. May even drive my old 240 Z to the game if it's a nice day, other wise will be in my old red Jimy. Hope to see some of you'll in Athens.
