Charles Grant

Former Georgia and current New Orleans DE Charles Grant was stabbed in the neck in a night club altercation the other night. Doctors released him and said he was not seriously hurt. Apparently some guy went completely nuts; not only was Grant stabbed, but a pregnant woman was shot and killed. At some point it's not the player's fault for being there, but they still ought to stay away.

I agree with you dapolla. My question is what clubs do these athletes visit? I've spent my fair share of time in bars, night clubs, stripper joints, etc. and have never been witness to a stabbing or a shooting. And believe me when I say some of the places I've gone to were rather shady at best.

It just seems to me that when the fame and money come to you as a professional athlete you need to me more discerning when it comes to the company you keep. Michael Vick being an excellent example.

Go Dawgs!!!!

What can you say? The Big Easy ain't easy, a crime ridden city. I'm praying for his full recovery.
Pacman Jones is a prime example of what you get when you frequent these places.

Surprisingly enough this did not happen in NOLA. This actually occurred in Blakely, GA. I do agree though that if you put yourself in the right places and make the right decisions the chances for incidents like this are less likely to happen. Random acts of violence are not very common at all.

I am now finding that you can go many places New Orleans and not fear for your life. You have to use common sense just as you would in any big city, but NOPD does a great job of saturating the Qaurter and areas surrounding it with officers.

Hope Charles recovers and takes this as a lesson learned if he put himslef in a bad situation and it was not just one of those \"random acts\". Unfortunately a young lady carrying a child lost her life which makes the stab wound seem minor.

I think one of the things at play here and in all nightclub incidents (well except for Pacman) is the fact that football players are more and more getting seen as targets. Athletes in general are. And if some drunken idiot wants to sue you and make a few bucks, all he has to do is start a fight and get you to punch him. Then he's got a free settlement in all likelihood because the NFL wants these things to go away quickly and quietly and so do the players, I'm sure.

I think Grant is lucky here because it doesn't sound like that's what it was in this case. It sounds like this guy was pure-D nuts.
