Seems as if Coach Richt just piles one good deal on top of another. This hiring of Coach Lilly from FSU is certainly more than just a \"hiring\".
You won't read a lot about Coach Lilly in the Atlanta newspapers, especially after the initital hiring, but Coach Richt has done it again.
Living in Florida it is impossible to not know what is going on with football in this state. I can promise you that FSU did not want to lose Coach Lilly. He is talked about for the most part as being a tight end coach by those that know only that portion. He is, and a darn good one, which will continue in the tradition of UGA football.
This man knows every nook and cranny in this state, is a powerful recruiter, honest and is respected by those who recruit with him, and also, those that recruit against him. Mark these words . . . UGA will again see quality athletes from Florida heading to Athens. Bank on it. Coach Richt has been signing folks from Florida since his arrival, now the \"shotgun\" is a \"double barrel shotgun\" with this coaching hire. Welcome Coach Lilly, great work Coach Richt.
Florida State assistant coach Jody Allen told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer on Wednesday that he and the Seminoles were going to miss Lilly.
\"He's a buddy of mine as well as being a good football coach, but from a recruiting standpoint, he's the best I've ever seen,\" said Allen, who was in Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl. \"It's a combination of his creativity as a recruiter, and he's good at finding ways to sell them. He's relentless in his effort with it. He's gotten some big-time guys that people thought we had no chance at. Year after year, it seems like he pulls one out that everybody was done giving up on.\"

\"I'm appreciative of Coach Richt giving me this opportunity, and I'm eager to get to work to help in any way possible in making the Bulldogs the top college football program in the nation,\" Lilly said in a statement. \"I have long considered Coach Richt to be both a mentor and a friend, and I'm honored that he will now be my head coach.\"
