Way to go Coach Richt . . . .

WHAT THE COLLEGES RECRUITERS ARE SAYING: “Each year, there are a few kids nationally that you look at and say that this is one of those impact kickers who will make a difference. Here is one of those young men.”

HIS BAGS ARE PACKED: His decision was made long ago to head off to play for head coach Mark Richt and the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

Many times during the recruiting wars a lot of the attention goes to players that are spectacular backs or linemen. In my many years of watching football I have noticed that games are often decided by someone with a good leg. Blair Walsh has that \"good leg\". He is accurate, long, and when I say long, he will consistently put the ball in the end zone on kickoffs. That to me is very important. If the defense knows that the opposition has to move the ball 80 yards or so, makes defensive coaching easier. Blair Walsh is going to make a difference in many games that UGA plays, no doubt in my mind. Coach Richt, thanks again for recruiting Blair. (However, snicker, he is from your old stomping grounds). Go Dawgs!

Great call Buc!
If Walsh can replace Coutu, one of my favorite all-time UGA kickers, the Dawgs are set for a SEC Title run in 08'. As you all know, you gotta win some close games to win in the SEC & good kickers are a necessary ingredient to winning tight ball games.
This sounds crazy but I actually agree w/this article (See below) that is titled \"Athletic Kicker Could be UGA's Most Important Recruit\".

I'm very excited about this guy, he seems to be for real, having a kicker that can kick touchbacks is a priceless weapon especially with the new kickoff rule of the ball being put on the 30. It saves risk of injury and keeps the players from getting worn out having to sprint all the way down the field and chase a returner, plus we will be doing ALOT of kickoffs over the next few seasons from all the TD's.

GooseDawg78, had not seen the AJC article, don't think . . .

Just really gets this old body of mine really, really excited when I look over some of the things that Coach Richt is doing. I have said this before, but will repeat . . . hiring CMR was without a doubt the single best thing that UGA could have done, not only for the football team, for the fans also.

There are a lot of excellent high school football players in the State of Florida, and down in the area that Coach Richt is from, Boca Raton, football is as important there as it is in Georgia. He continues to pluck a few prime recruits from Florida each year, but I think the single biggest improvement in UGA football is recruiting and keeping the Georgia high schoolers in state. Football players mean a lot to any program, but I am one that believes that coaches like Mark Richt and his talents are what puts him and UGA over the top.

Looking forward to see what happens with all of the football talent that is verbal and also that which is committed. Exciting time of the year.

The distance to hit a 67 yard field goal. There are pro's that don't have that distance. A good year indeed.

Buc, I couldn't agree with you more. What CMR has done in his first seven years here has already cemented him just under CWB and CVD in terms of the Georgia greats. That's a 22-year coach and a 25-year coach we're talking about. If Richt stays going at this pace, he'll be hands down the greatest coach we've ever had. It's great to be living in this time; I was born in 1979 and missed all of the Butts era and most of the Dooley era. I began attending graduate school at UGA in 2002 and boy oh boy what a good year to be on campus.

When you look at Richt's winning percentage, his two SEC titles, three trips to the game and five Eastern Division titles (including the 2004 and 2007 ties with Tennessee), along with his records against Tech (7-0), Tennessee (4-3), Auburn (4-3), and even his two wins against Florida, along with his 5-2 record in bowl games INCLUDING two Sugar Bowl victories and two other January bowl wins, along with the high-quality recruits he consistently brings in, along with the number of Dawgs he's sent to the NFL, along with the ten-win seasons and top-ten finishes...hold on, I've gotta catch my breath here...

Just get down on your red knee and your black knee every night and thank whomever you happen to worship that Mark Richt is in Athens to stay. Never let anyone fool you: Mark Richt is the real deal, he's one of the great ones, and you're seeing him live, in person and from the beginning!!!
