Even ESPN...

Gene Wojchiechowski wrote a great column on ESPN.com saying that LSU and OSU don't deserve to be in the title game. He says that over a third of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll voters didn't even have LSU #2, but rather between 3-6. The problem was that UGA, OU and USC split votes for #2 and so LSU snuck in.

So with all these writers on our side, we have a legitimate chance now at winning the AP national title if LSU beats OSU in a snoozefest Tuesday. And THAT, my friends, is good for college football.

well ill go ahead and consider this a victory for the dawgs. its been a while since we really made an impression on any of this particular poll's voters, so based on this information it would seem that we have made our presence known in the beginning of the 2008 National Title Race. Wouldnt mind a shared national title between two SEC teams though : )

They'll give a share of the national championship to USC before they give it to UGA. I expect that if LSU wins in overtime or by less than a touchdown, they will split the title with Southern Cal. The media have been looking for any excuse they can find to crown USC champs. I wouldn't be surprised if UGA winds up 4th in the final poll, behind LSU, USC, and West Virginia.

well, ChemDawg i dont think they will. but only because UGA would play out as a much better story. although i find it hard to see them crowning two champions from the SEC, I think that UGA would FINALLY get tossed a bone and beat out USC. After all, we did beat the holy hell ideways out of the media's darling team in Hawaii. Plus, WV lost to Pitt and USC lost to Stanford, both perennial losers, and they wont crown a champion that loses to either. Our most embarassing loss came against South Carolina who is not a perennial loser, per say, and I think pollsters will be forced to take strength of schedule into consideration in the final polls, in which we easily beat out USC and WV

I think we got a better shot with the sportswriters than with the coaches, so I guess the AP title is possible but not likely. The whole system is so arbitrary. We SHOULD get the No.1 preseason ranking. Go Dawgs 2008!
