Ok so here we are at the end of the season and I guess I will post my thoughts on our beloved Dawgs.
I don't think we got shafted. Frankly, we didn't handle business on the field. We lost to SC at home and got destroyed by UT. Let that be a lesson to the team that every game counts. I do believe however there was no reason to drop us a spot. They could have at least kept us at #4.
Personally I think a bid to the Sugar Bowl this season is excellent. I really wanted to see us in the Rose Bowl against USC but being from out west I understand the tradition. I do believe the Rose Bowl selection committee should reevaluate its bid process. I feel they could have made a ton more money with a UGA vs. USC match up, but I'm not in charge so what are you gonna do?
To be honest this seasons team exceeded my expectations. I honestly thought that after the UT loss the wheels had fallen off the program and we were going to be lucky to win a majority of the next 5 or 6 games. I'm glad I was wrong about that one.
I hear all this moaning about not getting a shot at the national championship and realize how spoiled as a fan base we have become. I remember sitting in the stands back in the early to mid 90s and thinking there was no way we were going to beat Fla and Auburn in the same season. The student section wouldn't fill up till mid way through the 2nd quarter and I was happy to see us go to the Citrus Bowl. Now these days BCS bowls and SEC championship contention are a part of the program and I couldn't be happier.
We are overdue for a national title and I believe it will come. Soon. I say lets just be happy we have a program we can be proud of and remember that there was a time when BCS bowls and SEC championships were little more than a pipe dream for the Dawgs.
