I hope Georgia Tech shocks the college football world and hires a big name who can recruit and just comes in and takes the ACC by storm and restores the program to it's pre mid-90s glory.
I hate Tech as much as the next Dawg fan, and I certainly hope that we keep the streak going and going, but I would like to face them as a quality opponent from time to time.
What does it prove to dominate a perennial 7-win team year in and year out?
I remember back in the 90s during the Spurrier domination of UGA, those Gators forgot. Students on campus didn't consider us a big rival anymore. I forget who it was, but when asked to list Florida's major rivals, one of the players rattled off \"Tennessee, Auburn, and Floirda State.\" No mention of us Dawgs anywhere.
I like to beat Tech, but I would also like for both of us to be undefeated with the national championship at stake going into the final game one of these years. Having alot on the line and having both programs being considered elite is what makes great rivalries like Georgia-Florida, Ohio State-Michigan, Alabama-Tennessee, and Texas-Oklahoma. You don't have that if one team is alway dragging their asses to the game with a 6-5 record.
The bottom line is this: to be able to be involved in good rivalries that are the envy of the college football universe, we need our rivals to be at least decent programs too. I want Clean Old Fashioned Hate to be like what Florida-Florida State was in the 1990s, not like Oklahoma-Oklahoma State or Michigan-Michigan State.
They're a program in trouble and they need help and I hope they get it so we can be involved with some of those games of the century to tell the grandkids about.
