How does this change things? It would have been nice to have them ranked #1 if we got to play them in the SEC championship game, so that beating them would enable us to jump some people in the polls, but that's not gonna happen now.

We are currently #7 in the BCS. If the voters have any sense at all (which is probably too generous on my part), we should hypothetically be #5 in the BCS going into Saturday's action (LSU and Arizona State should now be below us).

Now, suppose Tennessee wins out, beats Kentucky tomorrow, and goes to the SEC championship game. Suppose Connecticut beats West Virginia and Kansas beats Missouri.

That should leave us sitting at #3 in the BCS, behind Kansas and Ohio State, prior to any championship game action.

Suppose that Kansas then loses the Big 12 Championship game. In principle, they should drop and it would still leave us to face Ohio State, even if we don't play in the SEC title game.

OK......here is where we are at.

#7 on wednesday..........

ASU lost so we will atleast be #6.

WVU loses to UConn.

The LSU result is not really an issue even if the land ahead of us if we can get a chance to play them.

We want Kansas to beat Missouri. Missouri would fall below us. A one loss Kansas might or might not depending on the score.

Then Kansas loses the Big 12 title game and we THEN jump a one loss Kansas because I bet the BCS people will have no desire to put a team into the title game who just lost their conference.

OSU gets fat on turkey.

We handle our business and with a little help get into the SECCG and pound LSU.

Then we are #2 to OSUs #1 and we take our turn again spanking OSU in a bowl game. It is an SEC right of passage.

Chem, yes I'm following the same events as you are and have about the same feelings. A couple of comments: Like you, I would like to have seen LSU remain #1 whether we played them or not in Atlanta. If we don't get a chance to play for the NC, which is likely (that we won't), I would like to see an SEC team in that game.

This is Saturday morning, and in my mind, UGA is now ranked either #5 or #6 at worst. LSU may or may not fall below us after losing to ARK in 3OT's. Once again I was surprised at how poorly a top SEC team played in such an important game. Granted, ARK is no slouch, but it looked like LSU was sleepwalking through much of that game. On critical offensive drives, they would amble up to the line with very little sense of urgency. Congrats to ARK; they deserved to win that game. I am very hopeful KY will play today like ARK did last night.

If UGA ends up playing Hawaii in a bowl game, it will be a very tough challenge. UH whipped Boise State last night in a hard fought game. UH's passing game is very impressive, but they are one dimensional on offense. Big day, today. Go Dawgs!

kentdaddy, pretty well on the mark as I see it too. But it seems like to me that it doesn't matter too much who wins the KU-MO game, because the winner of that game has to lose to OK in their conference championship game. So a 10-2 or 11-1 KU would likely fall below UGA because of their weak strength of schedule. MO already has one loss, so I am thinking that I would rather see MO win today's game.

Of course the UWV-UConn game is critical today as well. My guess is that UWV will play for the NC against either OSU or the KU-MO winner. UGA will have the opportunity to end the season ranked in the top 5 or the top 3, if we don't get to shoot for all the marbles.

I just want to see the boys hang half a hundred on the nats. That being said. We would have to get some love from the polsters. Not because they are ranked high. Just because it's a rivalry game. All of them half been close in the spread this year. Well, for the most part anyways. We hang a bunch on them, we look good. I take that back. We look better than we already do.
