From Athens- Friday Thoughts

Good Day All,

First order of business is a profound heartfelt thank you to those who took the time to offer prayers and thoughts for my wife of 41 years.

She passed on the 19th and truly is in a better place.

Some hours are better than others for me but time is the best healer.

Blessed to have had the caring people at St. Mary’s Hospice House here in Athens help her to cross the rainbow bridge.

This week’s BPS is going to be a mull to catch up on some thoughts that have been bouncing around in the empty space between my ears.

To those who braved attending the G-game you were a part of history.

SEC record for a spring game… Woodstock without the mud…..

I have lived in Athens for 13 years and learned very quickly how best to avoid game day traffic… Best plan is stay home …get your supplies before Friday and then hide the car keys…..

Well I was on a visiting schedule that had me leaving the house at 8am, lunch break at 12:30 then back to hospice and return home at 8pm..

Saturday of the G game left home took College station Rd to the loop

Got on the inner loop and at 8 traffic was filling and backing up on College Station toward campus….. Outer Loop toward campus was filling but moving without delay…

Hospice House is located off Jennings Mill rd which is off RT316 at the Oconee connector….

Two points the Waffle House at the Home Depot complex had a full parking lot at 8:15 and they were parking on the grass….

Second point 17 local motels/hotels sold out both Friday and Saturday nights at regular season game rates… I was checking for family coming in..

Said to self….I sense a big storm brewing ..this was a good 7 hours before KO…

Broke for lunch…. Was trying to make left turn off Oconee connector on to 316…. Looking back toward Atlanta and I-85 it was a parking lot solid cars as far as you could see…..

Heads on local radio station at Sanford were saying that we would make to the high 60K but would fall short of the 93K….. I was yelling you idiots …. You have no clue what is heading your way…

Got on the outer loop…. All exits backed up ….cars sitting on the shoulder backed up…. I came all the way around the loop to Olympic Dr and was able to get home without further delay….

Now the real comedy…. Nobody thought the Dawg Nation would answer the challenge HC laid down in January …wrong…

Now the school has a wooly by the tail….. if you admit you permitted a larger crowd than capacity and there is an crowd related accident ….the lawyers would lineup for several states… so the pissing contest with the AJC started as they were calling out how much larger the crowd was than 93K….. I had recorded and then watched the game later Saturday night…. The actual number was well north of 93k…..anyone inside would confirm….

It doesn’t matter if folks came out for the concert or the game….full house plus… sidebar my son and I wanted to go out for a late beer and a burger….. Blind Pig..College Station… at 10:15pm.four plus after game ended….. one hour wait..to be seated…… crazy good….

Came home and fired up the grill after a stop at Publix…..

Kudos to all who answered the call ….. well done…

Dawgs are going guns getting recruits to commit to the “G”…..
We will have players to coach up…. Quality depth on both sides of the ball… HC had a plan when he hit the Classic City and he has it rolling out in a way we have not seen in a long time if ever..

NCCA…blinked….. satellite camps our back on….. fear not CKS has this covered also…. Believe the SEC will make the Big whatever sorry the opened this can of worms…….. Also good that the key players in state are looking at Georgia …..

Just one last word for the moment….I am sure more will follow.
For a number of reasons over the past years truthful comments were made about how special the folks who make up Dawgs.com are.
Not long after moving to Chattanooga I heard and learned the phrase..They are just good people… well that fits for all who are a part of Dawgs.com……

Pause and give thanks…. Super size would be good…

YD1 I heard something this last week hope it helps with the missing. It was part of the eulogy that Monty Williams gave after the passing of his wife.

" We didn't lose her. When you lose something you can't find it. I know exactly where my wife is. "




And so do you sir, She is there waiting on you for that grand reunion when y'all will be together again.

Please let me offer condolences for your loss and prayers for your days.

As always, thanks for your observations. It's an exciting time to be a dawg. I recall Richt's debut, and thinking was a refreshing change it was after the Goff disaster and Donnan inability to break out of the rut. But these past few months have been off the charts.

I think we are seeing the difference between a "professional" division I coach and a well-meaning amateur. Ready for some professional results this fall.
