The Winning Way Opposed to The Richt Way . . . .

9 years 9 months ago - 9 years 9 months ago #66789 by Buc
Many times myself and others have questioned Mark Richt's “right” to carry the title of Head Coach, Georgia Football.

Cannot count the times I have posted that Mark Richt is “still” coaching as he did in Tallahassee. An absolute clone of Bobby Bowden . . . . one exception, Bobby Bowden did win the National Championship as “Head Coach”.

Entering as head coach in his 15th year, read the insert below, blogger from a different site makes it easier to understand that our head coach truly does not understand college football. Especially SEC football. Has been repeated here for years.

There is a handful on this site that know more about what an offensive line means to winning football than our multi-million dollar head coach. He cannot seem to comprehend. Some post that he is stubborn, sorry it starts with an “s” but stubborn is not the correct word for what we have endured for 14 years.

My sincere hope is that the influx of coaches from Alabama, or coaches with Alabama backgrounds don't get “railroaded” as has been the case with previous coaches. Did not start with the present head coach, goes back a great distance. Outside of Athens it is referred to as "Georgia Football as "usual".

Plucked from another site.

Speaking of recruiting, Mark Richt has publicly stated a dominant offensive line isn’t necessary to win big. He said they won all those games at FSU without having great offensive lines. The Seminoles do not play in the rugged SEC. You have stated several times how the OL is a perennial problem with the Dogs during the Richt era. As written in your most recent posting, once again there did not seem to be an emphasis on getting top O linemen signed. Nine of the Top 10 and 17 of 20 top OL prospects in Georgia chose to leave the state. It’s pointless to despair over Mark Richt. He is who he is, and that is a man who will never change nor adapt while everyone else around him is in constant adjustment mode and winning championships. So Dog fans, let’s get ready for another 10-win season. I love my team and school. That’s why I’ll be there again in section 137, row 60 hoping against all hope we’ll finally witness something different in 2015 — but I doubt it.

Bill King (AJC) said this . . . .

As I previously wrote, one of the areas I was most concerned about was offensive line, more with future seasons in mind than 2015, since those guys generally take a year or two to develop. And while Georgia did pretty well here in the latest recruiting class, it bothered me they didn’t really seem to put top priority on signing offensive linemen until after new coach Rob Sale was hired last month, when they suddenly launched on a frantic quest for prospects in that area. I think you may have touched on why this has chronically been the case under Richt — he’s convinced himself that a merely adequate OL is good enough — but I’m hopeful that the turnaround after Sale was hired might be an indication that mind-set is changing in Athens.

Mr. King Sir . . . . Rob Sale wanted the job at LSU. Did not happen. Another Alabama coach that understands this . . . . a lot of work has to be done in Athens, work of the type that Mark Richt does not understand. If he did, why change as he has with the recent hirings? Did the "light just go on" for our head coach?

Mark Richt and Special Teams Coaches???
Mark Richt on offensive linemen???
Mark Richt game day decisions???
Mark Richt, Carney Barker . . . . My opinion backed up with fact. Remain outside of the tent, talk with the media folks . . . . Miracles do happen. Lord knows we have needed one in the Classic City for "years".

The two links below are what I hope to see in Athens, another Alabama recruit that understands more than the head coach (Rob Sales). An Alabama recruit for the S&C area. Anyone wonder about the Mat Drills that Mark Richt brought back after a year of moving away from "his" way of training and dumping them again?

Does not understand "Offensive Line" value, no need for "Special Teams Coach", not coaches, "Coach". Think we will make the "Final Four" if we remain under the "Mark Richt Way"? Yes, I see new coaches and techniques being employed . . . . will Mark Richt allow that to meet fan expectations?

Many times it has been said, Mark Richt get the hell out of the way. Let those that "understand" the game coach. Bet this, the Alabama Gang will not hesitate at contracts end to move along. Fully expect that to happen, coaches leaving.

The difference in SEC football programs? Nick Saban has Kirby Smart, Scott Cochran, "had" Mark Hocke. Nick Saban accomplished a hell of a lot more in a "much shorter time" than what has been accomplished in Athens. If anyone wants to suggest that there is change in Athens, I say first, Coach Will Friend, the beginning of "positive change" in Athens.

Richt should have never let Friend get away....should of promoted him to OC and kept him as OL coach and hired a SPECIAL TEAMS coach...not saying he did a bad hire of CBS but special teams is a integral part of winning and could have used part of what they are paying CBS for a ST coach...but alas there is a right way a wrong way and then there is the Richt way...

sigh...but we are just TWO YEARS AWAY from a high school kid coming in a saving UGA football...

In a post back several days ago I pointed out how top linemen for the state went elsewhere and how our 5 and 4 star guys rarely have the words Offensive Line written beside their names.

Also noted was the fact that we had just about nothing until after Sale was hired, and only then did we even make a pitch to one of our in-state guys.

Richt doesn't get it, and the arrival of Sale didn't change that anymore than the arrival of Friend did. All that happened when Sale arrived is that Richt begrudgingly tried to appease him by letting him use one of our left over scholarships (Ya know... because we undersign when people like Saban and Meyer over sign).

As far as some big shift in Richt's philosophy about the line goes? Sorry... I don't believe it. Our greatest hope is that we get some diamonds in the rough that other schools miss and that we are then able to coach them up.

Richt is still Richt. No one needs to delude themselves that anything else is true.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Appears to me that the hard work that the Public Relations folks have put in is paying dividends. Looking around at different blogs, can already see those that were irate about Richt game calls, especially the one against GT, moving back to center, or to the left.

Not much changes over time Wartdawg, can't really come down too hard on those that are influenced by the media, simple fact of life.

Will be interesting looking at the different posts in 2015 when a Richt sideline decision is made and the outcome could have been different. I say that, predicting that for what reason? Happens every year, what will change in 2015? It is often said and proven true in Athens for the last however many years . . . . "History tends to repeat itself". True dat.

Be glad to return to "previous years" of offensive line needs posted on this board. Way before the other blogs that now seem to say we need offensive linemen. All orgredawg and myself were saying "back then" was "what about the offensive line".

Spent some time in Plantation, Florida a short time back. There is another offensive lineman playing for the same high school that produced Sony Michel and Isaiah McKenzie, along with Tarvarus McFadden that signed with FSU. Already getting offers and will probably be rated as the #1 or #2 offensive lineman coming out of high school in two years. If this young man was either a running back or quarterback, Mark Richt would have one, two or three coaches all over him.

When I mention offensive linemen coming out of high school in two years, Nick Saban already has his 2016 offensive line class wrapped up. Much as I hate to say it, probably meyer also. meyer learned a lot in a short time in the SEC and the coach that he watched closely, no not Richt, it was that coach in Tuscaloosa.

.. and don't get me wrong guys..

We will get our O-linemen here from time to time. Sale will sell the G and make the sale, and there will always be that great O-line recruit that grew up wanting to be a Dawg (although in this age those are getting fewer and fewer).

What I mean though is building an offensive team through the line first... a solid commitment every single year to really go after these guys hard with effort from ALL... ensuring a constant next man up situation... not from Richt.

We will only achieve that through the coaching ability of those that work under him. The situation we have is that the O-line coaching position here is even more important than it is at some other places.

Our OLC has to always be coaching guys up...just a tad more.

That's why Friend was the bigger loss in our coaching exodus, but hopefully Sale is cut from the same ability cloth... maybe by force of will he can do a few things.. but you can bet it will be all on him.

Paragraph pulled from the text below.

``We're playing in a league (the Southeastern Conference) that has a lot more close games than where I was at Florida State,'' Richt said. ``There are more of those decisions that need to be made. At Florida State, it might be one of two times a year where you had to make those kind of decisions.''

Goes back a ways, but a read that can be reflected on this day and time.

Can't count the times that I have mentioned Bobby Bowden on this board.

Coach Will Friend did more to change UGA Football in a shorter period of time than any head coach I can recall for many years.

Reading all I can find on Rob Sales . . . . Wartdawg, if the players on campus now accept him, Richt has another Alabama coach that stands his ground.

a.espncdn.com/ncf/s/richt's%20calls.html

Know that this video has been posted on this board before, but worth another look. Easy to understand that Rob Sales has been around coaches like Saban, Cochran and Hocke. Listening to his descriptions of different "things" that all three coaches mention in videos and sound very much alike.

Guess the Public Relations and IMG forces have not gotten to me as yet.
