Georgia Defense Will Surprise

Lifted the bold post from another site. Seems there are many that think along this line. Understandable, do not however agree with the assessment. This is part of blogging.

This offense has the chance to be special. Saying that, it's going to have to be in order to keep up with the amount of points the defense is going to give up. I don't think UGA will ever be as easy to run on as they are this year.

Not for a minute do I think that Chris Wilson will allow his defensive line to be pushed around for a lot of yardage and points. There is a lot to be said for "depth" and if everything I read concerning Grantham and Wilson comments hold true, really believe this defensive line(s)(two or three deep) will be more productive than the group that played there last season.

Why do I make the last statement. In my heart I do not believe that Garner used good judgment or had his "heart" into motivating his defensive linemen. I also believe he knew coming into 2012 that he was leaving for Auburn. Funny how the 2012 defensive line and Garner turned out, eh? This of course falls on the shoulders of Grantham, he was/is the Defensive Coordinator. If I have said this once, have said it many times . . . . Good riddance Garner. That is not sour grapes, that is looking at his body of work since Grantham was hired by . . . . Mark Richt. Garner's ego hurt because he did not get the Defensive Coordinator's job . . . . Appears to me that Richt did not see Garner as an overall leader of the defense. Been wanting to get that off of my chest, had said in earlier posts that I had more to say on the subject. Garner moved laterally in my opinion, apparently he is not qualified to be Defensive Coordinator at Auburn either.

Couple of times the posts on this board have mentioned our defense will get better as the season progresses. Can't disagree with that, it is expected.

In this old fart's mind, keep going back to the Alabama game, then the game against Nebraska. In my mind we played pretty well, considering some of the defensive linemen and Garner were absent. Might be a message there concerning coaching ability and along with that motivational support from the defensive line coach.

Sticking to my guns, this group of Georgia players have something going for them that has been missing a long time. Glad to read your comment on Chris Wilson, yd1. Keep us informed. :)

Again . . . . Go Dawgs, Coach'em Up!

Looking around, preparing for our opener, this should be a good test for our entire defense.

Clemson with a good ACC offensive line versus Chris Wilson's inexperienced defensive line.

Can see some areas on their team that put a smile on my face. Lots of crowd noise in their stadium, our guys will grow up quickly.

Georgia wins this road game.

Below lifted from a Clemson site.

KEY LOSSES
OFFENSE: Andre Ellington-RB, Jaron Brown-WR, Brandon Ford-TE, Dalton Freeman-C, Benton Spencer-K/P
DEFENSE: Malliciah Goodman-DE, Jonathan Willard-LB, Xavier Brewer-CB, Jonathan Meeks-SS, Rashard Hall-FS

Secondary
Clemson continues to be one of the worst pass defenses. Until they solve the entire defensive puzzle starting with the defensive backs, Clemson will be good but never great. They can start rebuilding as the Tigers will lose three starters from this defensive backfield.

QUICK TAKES
• It would not be surprising to see Clemson dot a few Top Ten preseason lists based on the offensive firepower returning. However, after watching Clemson falter against top ranked opponents time and time again it's hard to designate them that high in such a list. Until they rise up and beat a Top Ten team, they just are not going to garner Top 10 respect.

• Quarterback Tajh Boyd is Clemson's barometer. When he plays well Clemson is hot, when he is off Clemson does not.
• The Clemson ground game has revolved around Andre Ellington. It now has to revolve around senior Roderick McDowell, an experienced Palmetto State product who is more than capable of handling the load.
• The offensive line will continue to be a dominating factor in the ACC. A great deal of experience rests with this unit.
• What ultimately has been killing Clemson through recent years in spite of the high scoring offense has been a defense that at times appears to be non-existent. The Tigers will be better up front with the maturation of several young defensive linemen including Josh Watson, DeShawn Williams and Grady Jarrett.
• The secondary is hurting at safety. Despite having veterans man these spots the unit has been victimized over and over by big pass plays the entire season. Changing these fortunes won't be easy.

Sunday paper and coffee and Buc holding court.

I remember a while back that we both had a feel that Clumpson had the feel of last years road game at Mizzo. As we get closer I am feeling that way even more.

Thanks for sharing the Clemson post and it make sense that AM and crew will be able to take care of business.

Playing a good team first rather than a cupcake holds both the players and attention. No chance for slack in the chain. A very good thing with USC next.

CTG and staff are deep in the bowels of the B/M bldg I am sure they are spending the next 40 days before camp opens plotting and planning.

Our "D" shows up and plays Old Man SEC football. Pads popping over Lake Hartwell. Time for a warm up on the coffee. "Go Dawgs" !

Go Dawgs!

Agree with all.

Boyd will play on Sundays where Franklin had no chance......Boyd scares me, the real deal. We had better get to him or he will eat up our secondary.....don't think he can't play.

Regardless, still feel we win the game......may have to score 40+ to do it if we can't pressure Boyd.

yd1, have mentioned to ogredawg that one of the folks that played football at Lowndes and UGA for VD keeps me up on some things that are still near and dear to his heart. Red and Black all the way "Greg" is. Greg is employed by the VA. After UGA he served in the Marine Corps, now serving Veterans. Good soul and "strong hand shake". :)

Greg seems to think that Dyson Sims is going to be playing football in Athens. Georgia was the first to offer Sims and now many are after this young man. Florida State and Alabama are coming hard. Once upon a time Lowndes was owned by Florida State. Bobby left and some things have changed.

There is a classic battle going on right now as we speak between Alabama and Georgia for his services.

Prize fight sets up like this . . . .
Wearing the Red and Black . . . . Mike Bobo and Will Friend.
Wearing the Crimson . . . . Kirby Smart and Mario Cristobal.

This is a battle between the best recruiters of South Georgia talent year after year, Bobo and Smart. These two get involved with the same team down the road . . . . wow!
