From Athens- Good Friday and Blessed to be a Dawg

Good Morning All,

At the risk of overstating that which has already been stated CTG will find a way to get KG and JJ on the field at the same time come fall.

The turnaround of KG is partly the news of JJ coming to campus but that is but one factor. Once again CJT took KW under his wing and asked KG what do you want from your football life. What are you willing to do to reach those goals. KG had the right answers. CJT laid out a plan for KG to follow. Once CTG saw what was taking place with KG he was on board with seeing how much progress could be made over the winter and spring.

Having found himself and with continued hard work plus game experience he will have an excellent chance to play at the next level.

Look no further than CTG smile when he speaks of KG for the answer to his level of improvement.

Buc, doing some follow up on your tip about JJ being a standup guy I found nothing but good things about him being a “We” and not a “Me” person.

As JJ said he expects nothing to be handed to him and looks forward to working hard and playing alongside KG. Most important getting back to winning football games. I like it a lot!

Something I have heard here all spring is that there is a different feel to this year’s team. We have less babble from the coaches, players bigger and stronger. We did what we needed to do in recruiting. Pretty much shut the state down on players leaving. We have an AD that stays out of Buckhead bars and when he speaks coaches listen.

Many of us our talking with guarded optimism toward the coming season.

What I have not heard once…… “Sunshine Pumper” don’t miss it or need it.

After tomorrow we have 18 more Saturday’s before BSU….. We will be ready!

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Easter !! Time an extra minute to give thanks to those in uniform spending time away from family so as we can be safe with ours.

We are blessed, Have a great weekend and a safe week.

As always “Go Dawgs”

Go Dawgs!

yankeedawg1, always look forward to your Friday morning thread.

Really good read on KG having a heart to heart with CJT. Hoping and agreeing with ogredawg about the defensive backs. Would like not only to hear, but see some results from Lakatos and his teachings. Appears that anyone possessing superior talent gets pulled or partially pulled from him. :) Front looks good, linebackers same, DB's and safeties come together, this could be fun.

I still rest my case on changes being made, hoping that the offensive side, with all of the talent there step up and get as much "good press" as it appears the defensive side will.

Again, Good Friday, Easter best wishes to all, and as wlayton said . . . "His" blessings, and aveagedawgs "Amen" put the real things in perspective. :)

Georgia's Mark Richt says 2010 season was 'my fault' in visit to Jacksonville
Coach says Bulldogs won't have repeat of 'embarrassing' finish

By Hays Carlyon
Georgia head football coach Mark Richt couldn't have been clearer.

Last season was not acceptable for the Bulldogs.

Richt spoke to roughly 200 Georgia fans at the Jacksonville Marriott on Thursday night.

Richt and his Bulldogs come limping into the 2011 campaign after a 6-7 mark last season. Georgia suffered a losing record for the first time in 14 years, wrapping up the season with a 10-6 loss to Central Florida in the Liberty Bowl.

Richt admitted to the crowd that he felt the Bulldogs lost some close games last year because the other team played harder.

"That's embarrassing," Richt told the audience. "It's our shame and it's my fault. We're not going to let that happen again."

Last season's disappointing result has some in the national media wondering if Richt is in danger of losing his job should Georgia stumble again. Georgia is 20-15 in its last 35 games, a span which includes a 12-11 mark in the Southeastern Conference.

Richt met with the media prior to the start of the program.

"I don't worry about that [speculation]," said Richt, 51, who is entering his 11th season at Georgia.

"I just coach. I try to make decisions that are in the best interest of Georgia. There's always going to be pressure in this type of job. There's pressure every year."

The criticism could be viewed as unfair. Richt is 62 games over .500 at Georgia with a 96-34 record and has led the Bulldogs to two SEC titles. That's impressive production, but his lack of success in this city is cause for concern among the Georgia faithful. Richt is 2-8 against rival Florida and has lost the last three meetings with the Gators.

Now, with UF undergoing a coaching transition from Urban Meyer to Will Muschamp, the meeting on Oct. 29 might be Richt's last hope to flip the rivalry's momentum back to the Bulldogs.

"Any year would be a great year for us to do that," Richt joked. "It's always a huge game and a game that's talked about a lot, especially in this town. You hope to perform well as you get to that game, so that it's extremely meaningful."

Richt could quell any speculation regarding his job status if Georgia can survive two difficult challenges to open the season. The Bulldogs take on Boise State, a 12-game winner from a season ago, on Sept. 3 in Atlanta's Georgia Dome. The following week, South Carolina, the reigning SEC Eastern Division champions, travel to Athens in the conference opener.

"Boise State is a not a conference game, but it's a big game for the University of Georgia," Richt said. "To have a season like we just did that was so far below what we are used to and what's expected, we needed this game. Boise State is the winningest team over the past 10 years. If we can battle with them, we can make Georgia very relevant again nationally."

Richt's greatest asset this season might be his quarterback. Redshirt sophomore Aaron Murray is coming off a tremendous freshman season in which he threw for 3,049 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Murray also ran for four scores. He's likely to garner some preseason accolades in the SEC.

"I wouldn't trade him for anybody," Richt said. "He knows the system now, but it is his growth as a person and a leader. He loves Georgia. He loves the team and he loves to prepare. He's what you look for, and he's got an outstanding talent base."

Crossed fingers wlayton that Tereshinski has this group of offensive lineman over the summer working hard, especially "Bean". If he grabs on to the attitude that KG adopted, we will have someone that is really needed. He like a lot of the young men that have come through Athens in the recent past basically went through just enough of the motions to honor their contract.

At a loss to try and figure out A.J. Harmon. Remember the HURRAHS when he commited to UGA, I do, I was one of them. Maybe another miracle on tap for Tereshinski and of course Friend.

Must confess, last paragraph "made the story". . . . . . :P

Maybe Richt's attitude has really changed. I will pull for him and the Dawgs. Appears he/we have the schedule to improve this season. :)

The criticism of Richt could not be viewed as unfair by any logical person. 20-15 in 35 games will get you fired at any school that has won 700 games. This is not JV. This is not the USFL. This is big boy SEC football and coaches are paid handsomely. Vandy may take 20-15 over 35 games, but few others would.

The criticism of Richt has been completely fair. If anything it has been too gentle because he is such a "nice man."

Nothing to disagree with in this post. The truth is the truth.

Here is hoping that McGarity or whomever has drawn that line in the sand has gotten not only Richt's attention but others. With this years schedule, looking for 10 or more wins should not be ruled out.
