ATLANTA, Ga. --- The Georgia swimming and diving teams swept Georgia Tech and Emory on Wednesday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 overall by topping Georgia Tech 137-95 and Emory 154-81. The Lady Bulldogs stayed undefeated at 4-0 with a 137-98 decision over Georgia Tech and a 155-80 victory over Emory.

"I was very pleased with the way we competed," said Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle, who improved to 20-0 overall against the Georgia Tech squads. "Even though we were a little tired, we swam hard. This was a beneficial meet for us as we were able to take a look at some people in some different places. This will really help us out as we go forward and make some decisions."

RabunDog, my youngest son was a very good swimmer here in Florida. Had several scholarship offers. He used to train six days a week, two or more hours a day. One of their swim drills was to tie clorox jugs, filled with water to their ankles and put laps in like you would not believe. Also remember dapolla saying that he had swam competetively. UGA women always do well nationally, great coach, great talent.

Swimming with jugs of water attached to ankles - good grief - that would sure build up your endurance

Think we don't realize how demanding these other sports are unless we personally have participated in or witnessed others in practice

ATHENS, Ga. --- Amber McDermott of Mill Creek, Wash., and Maddie Locus of Sugar Land, Texas, have signed national letters of intent with Georgia, head swimming coach Jack Bauerle announced on Wednesday.

McDermott is considered the nation’s No. 1 prospect, according to CollegeSwimming.com. She competes for Cascade Swim Club and is coached by Tom Pardee. McDermott is the country’s top senior in the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. She also is ranked No. 2 in the 400 individual medley. McDermott represented the United States in the Junior Pan Pacific Games last summer.

“We couldn’t be happier about having Amber join our program,” Bauerle said. “She’s one of the very best swimmers coming out. She’s a great young lady with a great attitude. She will help us a lot. I expect to see her competing for many national teams.”

Locus attends Fort Bend Dulles High School. She swims for First Colony Swim Team and is coached by Allison Beebe. Locus won the 5A state title in the 50 freestyle and came in second in the 100 freestyle. Locus was the National Club Swimming Association junior national champion in the 50 freestyle and was named to the NCSA All-Star Team. She is a two-time High School All-American and a three-time Scholastic All-American.

“Maddie is a great prospect who will be able to help us out in so many ways,” Bauerle said. “She’s also an exceptional student. We are looking forward to having her represent Georgia in the classroom and in the pool.”
