Good article on DemetreBaker
UGA football signee cleans up at state track meet
By Florida Times-Union - Athens Banner-Herald
Published Monday, May 10, 2010
Buzz up!
WINTER PARK, Fla. - It can't get much better than this for Orange Park's Demetre Baker, a standout football player who signed with Georgia in February.
Baker put on a show in the field events at Saturday's FHSAA Class AAAA State Track and Field Championships by sweeping both the shot put and discus titles.
He turned in the best efforts of his high school career in his two specialties, winning the shot put with a toss of 62 feet, 10 inches and capturing the discus crown with a throw of 191-4.
Baker plans to leave for Georgia in early June to enroll in several summer classes and begin his football workouts.
\"That's it for track for awhile,\" said Baker who excelled at linebacker and running back for the Raiders. \"My thoughts are now with Georgia football. Get an early start on some classes, put some more weight on and start in with the football workouts. I'm a Georgia 'Dog now.\"

Living here in Jax, I have a friend and VERY reliable source, that knows DB and some situations surrounding his time at Orange Park HS (don't want to give out much info on him here).
He told me that before DB's senior year at the school, he had some problems with getting into trouble and believe he even had problems staying on the team (can't remember if he was ever kicked off or not). He told me he was questionable at best and was actually surprised when UGA offered him. NO other D-1 school offered him a scholarship. On a good note though, he said once Danny Green came in as the HC, he established big time discipline on the team and it completely turned DB around. He had a great senior year, no problems and believe it was because of HC Danny Green. At the conclusion of our conversation, I asked my friend if he thought he would now be fine at UGA discipline wise.........he just raised his eyebrows and said \"we'll see\".......\"hope so\".

Thanks for the inside info wlayton
If he ends up on the defense - linebacker - maybe CTG will be the right influence on him - I think he will not put up with much - or you'll be off the team
Hopefully he's learned his lessons already - but college is a big challenge to stay out of trouble for some guys - maybe CTG has already had a tough talk with him - sounds like he's a good athlete

I stand corrected on the D-1 offers, he had a couple. DO believe he did a 180 his senior year at OPHS.......also believe coach Danny Green was the main one responsible for the turn around.

Big weekend for recruiting coming up. Couple of \"right\" decisions this weekend could vault this class into stellar levels.
