Hutson Mason

Earlier today I started typing a thread conveying my thoughts on Hutson Mason.

Always honest to myself, said in the thread that I thought Hutson would sign with Mississippi State. What with the coaching change there, and what I believe is an up and coming program without a doubt, just seemed to fit.

Truthfully, was not thrilled with UGA adding another QB, thinking more along the lines of adding OLine and Dline type of personnel. Deleted the thread before posting, just could not seem to hit the right thoughts to post on this board.

Speaking frankly, this young guy is exuding confidence, will be interesting to see how this plays out. He is now UGA, so no way I am going to squawk about the signing. He is going to wear the Red and Black.

This takes me back a ways, a long way back, thinking of one Johnny Unitas. No one wanted JU, just did not have all of the things that \"those in the know\" knew he did not have. I was privileged to watch JU for his entire career, and when you use the word respect, it had to be used in conversations about Unitas. Never will I forget the man that wore the \"High Top Shoes\".

This kid does not seem to be bothered about a team that was not going to add a QB this class. He is cocky, and if I am reading this young fellow right, he believes that his stars are aligned.

I wish him well . . . . come in, work hard, and let's see how this plays out.

Really thought he was going to Mississippi State. Shows what I know. This is going to be a very interesting year in Athens.

I know that he doesn’t have a big arm like Murray and Mettenberger, and he’s not the most mobile guy in the world. However, he’s supposed to be very accurate, and he broke all the state passing records. They run a “throw it all over the place” offense at Lassiter. Some worry that he’s a product of the system. He did throw 5 interceptions in a loss to Colquitt County in the playoffs. I think he’s a backup plan that will most likely redshirt. Probably a lifetime backup to Murray, and he might have one year to start assuming that Murray stays all four years. If Murray wins the job decisively against Mettenberger, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mett transfer just so he will see some playing time at some point.

wlayton you make an excellent point concerning Mettenberger. Had not really thought about it, but with the gun that he has, height etc, could see him transferring. Really going to be interesting in Athens . . . . .eh. . . . :woohoo:

Thought I would post this. Joined the live chat today with David Hale. Liked his response about Murray.

David, have watched Murray play (I live in Florida). He is the real deal. When hurt his Senior year, helped the coaching staff with play calling. He is ready to step in and play at UGA. Reads defenses like no QB I have ever seen coming out of high school. Bit of a gunslinger also. Yes, he does have wheels and knows how to take charge in the huddle. UGA is in for a treat with this young man.

David Hale:
Thanks for the info, Buc. Aaron's attitude has been praised by everyone I've spoken to. He knew he was redshirting and he has still prepared like he was going to start every game. He's got the type of professionalism that made Stafford a great QB but he probably has more athleticism than what Stafford offered (though not quite the arm). Again, any freshman QB is going to take some lumps, but I think the future looks very very bright with Murray.
