Escape from Shreveport

Tomorrow's Georgia-Kentucky game is significant in that both teams are already bowl elligible, so it is a battle to decide who doesn't get shipped off to college football's most boring bowl game. Given that the Dawgs are unlikely to beat the Nats, the loser probably goes to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, so it looks like a trip to the Music City bowl is on the line. If we win tomorrow AND beat Georgia Tech, we're probably looking at the Chick-Fil-A bowl, but could potentially get as good as the Outback, depending upon what happens with Mississippi, as they have LSU next.

The way I see the bowl picturing shaking out in the SEC so far is:

Bama/Florida winner: BCS National Championship Game

Bama/Florida loser: Sugar Bowl

LSU/Mississippi winner: Capital One Bowl

After that it gets kind of hairy with a bunch of 7-3 and 6-4 teams in the mix. If Mississippi beats LSU, LSU gets the Outback bowl. If LSU beats Mississippi and we beat Kentucky and Georgia Tech, we get the Outback and Mississippi gets the Chick-Fil-A. If LSU beats Mississippi and Georgia beats Kentucky but loses to Georgia Tech (most likely), Mississippi gets the outback bowl and we get the Chick-Fil-A. The Chick-Fil-A bowl would love a Georgia-Clemson matchup as reviving a discontinued traditional rivalry by two nearby schools would put butts in seats and be a huge moneymaker at the gate.

We lose to both Kentucky and Tech we get Shreveport because all other bowl elligible SEC teams will have either beaten us or have a better record than us at 6-6.

So yeah, alot on the line tomorrow, actually.

chemdawg, your breakdown sounds almost exactly like the conversation a buddy and I had over a few frothy beverages at an establishment that provides service wearing limited, yet orange colored attire. We pretty much settled on either going to Atlanta or staying home here in Nashville for our bowl trip this year.

Although Music City would be more convenient and easy on our wallets, the Chik fil A would be awesome and a great matchup between our Beloved and Clemson(an if there too). An early start to reenergizing that rivalry would be a blast!

I'm not getting cocky, but we could very well beat KY and the Gnats! We're playing at night in both and I'm feeling some better vibes and energy out of these young pups. Two more wins and a trip to a bowl game in FL would put the shackles on my intentions to watch the Dawgs in a bowl game this year, but I'm willing to sacrifice just about anything for revenge on the nerds.

Glad you brought this up as I'm sure the scenarios are running through more minds than just yours and mine.

Lets whoop the Wildcats first!

Yep. One game at a time.

But, let's just say we manage to beat both the Cats and the Gnats. If LSU beats Mississippi, LSU would get the Capital One Bowl and we would probably get the Outback while Mississippi got the Chick-Fil-A.

The Big 10 will put their number 3 team in the Outback because Ohio State is going to the Rose and their number 2 team gets the other slot in the Capital One.

Can you imagine a Georgia-Penn State matchup? That would be something to look forward to.

If the Dawgs make the Outback bowl, I'm there. Hell, I'll take Shreveport AND a win over tech, thank you, Alex...

If we beat Tech, we won't get Shreveport. A loss to Kentucky and a win over Tech probably gets us the Chick-Fil-A.
